When attempting to watch a live broadcast via the Plex Desktop App for macOS, I receive a “This live TV session has ended” error. I’ve tried recording the broadcast and attempting to view the playback, and this results in a similar error. After the show has ended, I can view the recording.
We don’t have this problem on our other devices (OTT, iOS, etc.), so this seems limited to the Desktop player. I don’t frequently use the Plex Desktop app, so this is the first time I’ve used it in a while. I don’t remember having this issue prior to this evening.
I’ve seen a few solutions that involve adjusting xteve decoding settings, but I have no idea how I would be able to do anything like that. Additionally, I’d expect this to be addressed through an app update by now (judging by how long ago those issues were reported).

I have this same issue; Live TV does not work using the MacOS app. I get the same error; “Playback Error: This live TV session has ended”. Sometimes it will play for a second or two and then stop. Sometimes the aforementioned error comes up straight away. Live TV works no problem in the web browser, on Roku, and the iOS app. It does appear this is limited to the MacOS app. Get the same thing on my other Mac mini, running latest Plex MacOS app v1.81.0 and on 10.15.7.
I’ve been having this same issue for a long time. It has yet to be fixed. I can never play any LiveTV via Plex Desktop on macOS. I always get “Playback Errors” or some kind of Error Code. So I gave up.
What’s funny is if you use the Web Browser or use the client apps on Roku, AppleTV and FireTV. There’s no issue playing LiveTV at all. The only app that has this issue is the Plex Desktop App
Tried this and everything under the sun. Still get frequent crashes of Plex player or “an error has occurred” during playback. MacOS 14.1.1 on M2 with Plex for Mac 1.81.0.4012-a9d3f098. Seems to crash quicker/more frequently when using HW transcode on server vs. direct play or direct stream but crashes frequently enough it’s not usable either way.

Where did you get 1.81.1? I assume that’s a typo? Release announcements only has Version 1.81.0 as of early Nov 2023.
A bit more data; it looks like the behavior depends on the server version and/or hardware. I have two servers:
Synology DS918+ running 1.32.5.7349: always gives “Playback Error” but plex player never crashes.
Nvidia Shield running 1.32.8.7639 sometimes works for a bit, sometimes doesn’t. Sometimes gives the “Playback Error” and sometimes plex player just instantly closes without interaction.

@sa2000@morganj Does Plex know about this issue? Any fix being worked on? I’m at a loss; can’t watch Live TV in the MacOS app on any computer. Thank you.
I started seeing this today for the first time. I can watch tv via my HDHomeRun on iOS, but not via the web browser or the Plex app on MacOS. I’ve tried on macOS Sonoma and Ventura. I’ve deleted and re-added my HDHomeRun DVR from Plex (although that shouldn’t be it since it works on iOS). The error are inconsistent and go back and forth between “Source is unavailable” and “This live TV session has ended” (it clearly hasn’t, I can watch on iOS).
I confirm @interconnect - somehow Plex team extremely quietly fixed this issue as I see it in v.1.32.8.7639-fb6452ebf with the release for Synology. Surprised and relieved after a lot of weeks scratching the head. Adding link to release notes to refer to if this ever happens again!
