Certainly my main issue of playing UK HD recordings seems fixed. Skipping and seeking also is much, much faster.
I’d still like to see the underlying transcoding problem for UK HD broadcasts to be fixed sp that bandwidth-restricted remote playing would work OK. Someone has suggested it’s only a problem with the Shield’s hardware transcoding and that turning this off solves it (at the cost of much slower transcoding).

This is good news. I only watch my HD recordings on the shield, so if this is now fixed. I am very happy!

The beta seems to direct play everything now, including UK DVR recordings (SD & HD) in TS containers without any transcoding.
Also AVI Xvids and MKVs with FLAC audio all play without transcoding. Only thing I found that still seems to need transcoding is ASS subs with embedded fonts.
In the new beta player, you can direct play ASS subtitles. We only offer basic support though and don’t yet support embedded fonts and the other features. If you go into the settings and change the subtitle preference to Burn Image Subtitles Only they should direct play for you!
@sixones - This release is a vast improvement, my recordings play almost straight away with no issues, pauses etc. Great stuff, I can finally use plex as my full time DVR. Good work!
now just need to get a decent EPG timeline view - then I will also use plex for browsing and playing Live TV.
Just noticed this post below in the plex pass forums, looks like traditional grid EPG is in the works! Once that is done, Plex will be super awesome and it will be all i use. Great stuff plex Devs!
"Back on September 28th I posted a “grid-a-licious” post providing an update highlighting the delay in bringing this feature to life, while confirming our intension to provide it by the end of the year. As I mentioned in that post, we couldn’t guarantee the delivery date due to the nature of software development. Unfortunately, we have had to push delivery out by one quarter due to resourcing challenges. The developer who was assigned to this had to be moved to another project. End of bad news!
To reiterate, grid view has been delayed, but is definitely not dead. The feature has been planned out and we’re still looking at bringing the classic “spreadsheet” style timeline view with channels, logos, and all the program information you need to get a sense of what’s airing now and what’s airing later on. You’ll be able to tune in live to a channel directly from the grid view while also being able to schedule programs to record as you navigate forward it time.
Our original plan was to deliver this by the end of Q4. We now have it as the #1 top new feature priority for DVR in the new year, with plans to deliver it by the end of Q1. That’s not the only thing we’re working on for DVR. You’ll see other hotly requested features (and fixes) coming to Plex DVR."
