Plex doesn't find my following episode in my series

Hi Forum,

I have a series in the following structure

Bluey (2018)/Series 01/Bluey (2018) - s01e01
Bluey (2018)/Series 01/Bluey (2018) - s01e02

but plex is not allow me to switch between the episodes, I always have to exit the tvshow and jump to the other one from the directory.
I’ve read this blog post > https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/
but didn’t help me too much, can anyone assist me in how can I resolve this issue?

regards,
Istvan

What exactly do you mean by that?
What directory?
What is “the other one”?
Which Plex client type are you using?

Some screenshots could help a lot explaining.

in the red circle there should be a “next episode” button, which is not working what’s meaning that I have to exit the tvshow (the currently watching episode) and search the following one instead of simple clicking on the next episode button

What directory?

Bluey (2018)/Series 01/Bluey (2018) - s01e01

What is “the other one”?

Bluey (2018)/Series 01/Bluey (2018) - s01e01
Bluey (2018)/Series 01/Bluey (2018) - s01e02

Which Plex client type are you using?

  • browser (chrome on osx)
  • mobile (apple and android)
  • smart tv (android)

There are 2 questions to be clarified:

  • does episode 2 even appear in your library when you browse the library?
  • How exactly did you start playback of episode 1? Did you start playback after browsing the library? Or did you perform a search and then started playback directly on the seach result?

does episode 2 even appear in your library when you browse the library?
sad

of course, actually, these are examples, I have 52 episodes in the library >

Thanks, the sreenshot helps a lot.
I see the issue.
If you want Plex to treat your files as a series, you need to add them to a library of the type “TV Show” (which means “series” in Plex).
Also contributing to the issue is that you are using the “Folder” library view mode.

It appears that you have them currently in a library of the type “Other Videos”/“Personal Media”.

Currently, you appear to have only one single library. You will need to create at least 2 separate libraries (or maybe even 3).

  1. Movies
  2. Series
  3. private videos, which cannot be sorted in any of the above categories, and which are not listed on TheMovieDB.org.

You are best advised to sort all your videos into completely separate folders based on these categories.
Then, inside each of these category folders, apply the recommended file naming and folders structure for the various media types: https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/your-media/

Remove your current library “BearyMedia” from Plex. https://support.plex.tv/articles/200289286-deleting-libraries/
(if done as explained in the article, this will NOT remove the video files from your hard drive)

Now create a new library, by the type “TV Shows” and point it to the category folder for your series. https://support.plex.tv/articles/200288926-creating-libraries/
Now create a “Movies” library as need and point it to the folder where all your movies-types of video are stored.

You cannot combine movies and series into the same library.

The BearyMedia is not just a library, it’s a plex server I’m hosting.

The content you saw there, and the folder structer is served from my macbook:

In your screenshot video, it is a library name.
You might have set the server name to be the exact same, but that doesn’t matter for this issue.

The folder structure is no good.
You need a top-level folder for series, just as you have there for movies.

like this >

in plex >

Exactly.
Now move all the folders which are series (Bluey, Gilmore Girls etc) into that Series folders.
Point the new TV Shows library to this Series folder.
DO NOT try to add each series individually to the library.

Disable the “Folder” view mode in Plex.

now it looks like this >

Disable the “Folder” view mode in Plex.

I don’t understand the point of switching between “Folder” view mode to “Recommended” (Ajánlott in Hungarian)
The “Next episode” button shouldn’t rely on in which view mode the users watch the plex client, should it?

btw, still not working :frowning: :frowning:

Perfect!

I am not asking you to switch to the Recommended tab. Stay on the Library tab.
Only disable the “Folder” view mode.

The little downwards triangle indicates that this is a drop-down selector where you can change something.

You still have not removed the “Other Videos”-Library and created a new TV Shows library.

Then I’m afraid of not understanding this

Where exaclty should I create this “TV Shows” library?

I gave you a link above to the relevant support articles.

I’ve added a screenshot above.

You’re right, sorry, found it.

also right, and yeah, it helped. Created the folders (Movies and TV Shows (named Series)) and now something started to work  Thanks Otto!

Another question,

Now I have this >

Where the iNumber Number is a movie under the movies folder, don’t get it why I see it among Series.

Other issue, if you see that, the Kamichu!, Read or Die, Sousou no Fieren folders are out of the Series in the MacOS Finder.

But if I put those series folders under the Series >

then they’re disappearing

can you tell me why?

nothing, found it meantime. the problem was the Plex Movies folder pointed to the BearyMedia folder and not to the BearyMedia/Movie folder
same problem with the series, that’s why plex read everything into everything

Exactly!

Side note: I recommend you to always add the release (year) to the folder name.
Just like you did with Bluey.
Because if at some time in the future a new series is released with the same title as one of the old series you have, you might get trouble with mis-matches.
