I’d like to add to this discussion. I dumped the ROMs for all the Pokemon games I own that are supported on Plex (Game Boy, Game Boy Color & Game Boy Advance). Most of them will show in my “Games” library except for two. “Pokemon: Silver Version (1999)” and “Pokemon: Crystal Version (2000)”.
When I click on “Scan Library Files” and check the Alerts, it seems to skip over them. If I rename them to another Pokemon game, Plex will pick it up, When I check, it is able to play without any issues. This holds true if I use another emulator, like VisualBoyAdvance. I’m not sure, but this seems to be a naming issue of some sort and I can’t seem to pin it down.
If there is anything I can provide to help the situation, please let me know. Thank you!
Having the same issue with another game. I have Doom (1993) for the Sega 32X that Plex will not recognize. When I test the ROM using RetroArch and the PicoDrive Core, the game plays without any issues. I have it placed in the following folder location and named it as such according to your guidelines and the IGDB.com website (see my folder path below):
P:\Games\My Video Game Collection\Sega 32X\Doom (1993)\Doom (1993).md
I setup my “Games” Library to look for everything in the “My Video Game Collection” folder. So far this is the 3rd game that I ran across that Plex will not pickup. Please help!!!
wouldnt the file extension be .32x? Doom for 32x works fine for me with a .32x extension
Thank you so much!!! I could not find any naming guidelines anywhere on Plex’s website for other game systems. The only example they had was for the Atari. This might resolve my issue with Game Boy Color games too. I will keep you guys posted!
I renamed my Game Boy Color games with the appropriate extension (.gbc) and Plex was able to recognize it. Thanks again @Grooverider2016! I am new to emulation and this really helped me out. Enjoy your day!
I’ll try and compile a list of extentions that have worked for me
Gameboy = .gb/.gbc
NES = .nes
SNES = .smc
N64 = .z64
Game Gear = .gg
Master System = .sms
Megadrive = .md
32X = .32x
Great Idea. I’ve just added the extension type (which also helps with zipped vs not) to the core testing spreadsheet.
