Plex Download Feature - Big Backwards Step - All not Lost?

Sorry, I have not heard anything. Crash fixes are often just added when they are found. Have you tried the latest version 7.25 or even the beta 7.26 to see if this is still occurring? I remember you were on 7.24 last we looked.

I’m running the latest 7.25 but still crashing. You said:

By now developers should have much more info since you asked me to wait. It keeps crashing and logs are automatically sent.
Please advice on how to proceed.

Thanks in advance.

Anything?

Sorry, I haven’t heard anything specific. 7.26 came out that addresses a few crashes. Try that out.

I went back over this thread. I never noticed you wrote this. If the crash occurs when using iTunes, what does that have to do with Plex. I’m confused.

I went back over this thread. I never noticed you wrote this (ā€œI got these crashes log after synching the iPhone with iTunesā€). If the crash occurs when using iTunes, what does that have to do with Plex. I’m confused.

What I meant about using iTunes is that I used iTunes to Sync the iPhone with my computer to get the logs from the iPhone. The Plex logs are automatically transferred to the computer when synching thru iPhone with iTunes. I got the instructions on how to get the Plex log into the computer from a Plex link…
I will install 7.26 as soon as it gets available on my iPhone and let you know.

Thanks.

This is to confirm that after installing the 7.26 the app keeps crashing and crashing and…
Could you please tell me what’s going on? how to get support?

Hmmm. Let me repeat the question: How to get support?

Sorry, I haven’t heard anything about your crashes specifically. Can you get me new logs from 7.26? I’ll poke the team with these new logs.

Here are the log with recently crashes:
PlexDebugInfo-7.26-1822 (2021-12-20 12.56.26 -0800).zip (18.8 MB)

Please advice.
Thanks.

Hey, I see an error in your log that may point to the issue. There was a fix specific to the issue I’m thinking of that was included in PMS 1.25.2. Can you try upgrading the server to that and see if the crash stops?

These are the 2 logs from the Plex app:
PlexMobile-2021-12-20-Crashes.zip (13.1 KB)

Could you provide some details about the error?

I’ve updated the PMS to the latest available version: 1.25.2.5319

Find attached a new crash log:
PlexMobile-2021-12-20-190041.zip (8.0 KB)

Now, I’ve upgraded my iPhone 12 to 13. So after a new install in a fresh phone the crashes keeps coming:
PlexMobile-2021-12-26-120457.zip (7.5 KB)
PlexDebugInfo-7.26-1822 (2021-12-26 12.05.34 -0800).zip (10.2 MB)

I’ve updated the PMS to the latest version as you suggested. At this point I don’t know what else to do or provide to help to solve the crash problem. Can someone figure out what is going on?

Hello,
Any updates on this? Nothing? The app keeps crashing.

Nothing specific with your crash logs. We did identify something new that may be related. Can you enabled debug logging in your server. Then use the iOS app and try to recreate the crash. Open the app again and grab the logs. Also grab the server logs and provide both of those to me.

Please find attached the requested logs:

On top of the crashes the original post (1st post) & 2nd post) are still valid and causing headache. I will paste here:
"The separate download section is the problem - it’s an unnecessary complication…

Users shouldn’t have to navigate their content in one way if connected or within a bandwidth threshold, and via a flat list under ā€˜Downloads’ otherwise.

Suggestion: Why can’t Plex allow you to browse your regular library irrespective of the current bandwidth or connectivity - this us just metadata? The inaccessible items (not downloaded) could be greyed out?

The main issue here is the unnecessary effort needed to manage and maintain the same library via different interfaces. Of course anything can be forced on users but this is a basic user interface modelling principle - simplify, don’t complicate the user experience."

The Download section does not show the albums in alphabetical order. It’s a mess to find something if you have tons of downloaded music when the ā€œMusicā€ menu is not available if you are offline.

I agree with this comment - this is one of the usability issues that results from a divergent user interface.

The Download section does not show the albums in alphabetical order. It’s a mess to find something if you have tons of downloaded music when the ā€œMusicā€ menu is not available if you are offline.

The product manager/programmer’s first instinct would be to sort the albums in alphabetical order. I’d hope they don’t. That would mean digging into an already widening hole!

The best solution is to avoid the problem.

When you browse the media categories you have created (albums, playlists etc) you should be able to browse them. You should not have to browse them one way under one set of circumstances and then hunt for your media in a completely different way, if you have intermittent, low or no bandwidth. You don’t do that on any other app, so why Plex?

I fully appreciate the comment about the meta-data taking up too much space on a device. I just don’t accept it. The structure (even of thousands of entries) can be cached, even if the space hungry items (like pictures) are not.

And the suggestion that having a completely separate Downloads sections is to allow the user to see specifically what has been downloaded, is unhelpful. Grey an item out if it’s not available (for example if you are offline or its been deleted on the server). Don’t change the entire structure.

Anyway, just some constructive thoughts from an avid user. I hope the design can be resolved and made bug free soon!

If the meta-data is too big, then only show the metadata for the downloaded albums in the Music menu. Allow access to the Music menu when you are offline and show only the covers for the downloaded albums. Or… just show only the Downloaded albums in the Music menu when offline. These are just ideas, but Plex developers… aren’t you using your own app? Stop adding new stuff, fix the current features or just remove what is not working
Right now is so awkward. As a funny note, every time I add an album my wife deletes all her downloaded music (many GBs) and load them again just to have the new album in an order that she wants. This has non sense. She hates Plex because of this, and forget about the constant crashes.

Please, find the attached log ( Plex Crash Logs 2022-01-29.zip (14.7 MB))

More than 10 days passed since I uploaded the logs as requested but zero no news.
I’ve my wife furious with the app. since it crash or not able tu use it. Since the last 3 days she is not able to play any music. The app is behaving super slow. I’m attaching a picture of the main menu. Take a look carefully since you will see most of the menu items repeated many times.
She has around 20Gb of music downloaded. The app is behaving so slow that is unusable.

I don’t see how to fix it other than reinstalling the app and having to download the 20 GB again.

I’m running the latest server version and the latest version on her iPhone.
Please provide some feedback, and if possible a solution.

Sorry. I thought I had replied. I need logs as I mentioned earlier. I don’t need the crash logs, they don’t reveal any information.
