Hey, I’m also having this problem and it drives me crazy.
My server is in another country, it has Fiber with 1000/500 (down/up). The place where I watch my content also has Fiber 1000/600 (down/up). When I download something, the start is really fast, after that it slows down. I’m running the latest server version and the latest Plex for Windows version.
Also, sometimes it keeps buffering for no reason, doesn’t matter what quality, sometimes it works flawlessly.
I’ve looked everywhere and I really don’t see any limit regarding my problem. I also disabled Plex Relay.
I’m having this exact same problem. I can stream 100Mbps files remotely on my iphone, no problem. But downloading literally any media happens at about 2kbps. It makes no sense, I have lifted all remote bandwidth limits and this is still happening. It makes the downloads feature completely useless to have such a low speed.
Yes, I’m only getting 2Mbps currently and dropping.
The “patch” change things but not necessarily for the better. I never see the high speed downloads any longer, but the slower speeds were more consistent. However, they tend to drop off as I go. If I don’t download anything for a few weeks, the downloads go back to about 5 Mbps again, but nothing like the 75 Mbps I was seeing before the patch.
I’m running into this issue as well. With Sync it would take around 28 hours for the content get to my tablet around 300GB. With downloads I’m at 6 days and it’s still not finished.
@CiATRiX I think you are having an issue specific to Android when downloading to an SD card. In the message you sent me with logs I posted a link to the forum topic about that issue. I have added your logs to the bug report on it.
I too am experiencing VERY SLOW download speeds to an SD card on both A Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and a Samsung Galaxy S20FE. Plex MUST fix this before killing Sync, which works acceptably fast, interestingly also to SD cards so they are able to make it work with Sync.
@BigWheel sorry for the huge delay, forgot I made this post. Still having this issue, with 1 gig taking around 10-20 min to download with a 300mbps upload speed. Here are the logs
We are still looking into this issue of slow downloading to an sd card. We can reproduce the issue and are experimenting with solutions. To be clear, Android 11 made changes to how apps interact with external storage. This is going to be slower than saving to the internal storage. However, something with Downloads is making this even slower and this is what we are investigating. We are hoping to find a solution that will bring the speeds to match Sync, but it will still be slower than saving to the internal storage.
I just did an experiment and noticed that right after server restart, the upload is max. every subsequent download drops about 2mbps of speed.
Also another thing to note is that I have Plex Android app installed on one of the latest version of Chromebook with 128GB of “internal space” but it was still downloading at a very slow speed. I am wondering if Android app, running in Chrome, treats chrome HD differently.
This is the EXACT same thing I’ve been saying since the start of this thread but I am not using Android. Only the Windows Plex app on Windows 10. I’m seeing this across multiple PCs. Glad I’m not alone.
All the PCs are all impacted at the same time regardless of which PC I used when things were at max download speeds. Meaning, if I use PC 1 to download first and see those downloads slow to a crawl over time, then I can switch to PC 2 and see those same crawling downloads (same speed as PC 1). This would indicate a server side issue.
I just spent about an hour pulling my hair out wondering why the download is so slow. I tested downloading to internal storage and was really fast, but to the sd card is like 10Mbps. The sync feature was working just fine for me in the past, but the upgraded one would truly be better if this MAJOR flaw was fixed. I just got the Tab S7+ on an awesome Black Friday deal, but is taking a century to download the content that I want on it. Please fix this asap.
I am having the same issue. Downloads take forever. I have gigabit down and 40 up from xfinity and gigabit nic in the server that is wired to the router. Speed tests are 900+.
2 days know trying to download a tv show season. To my iPad. It’s WiFi speed test is 400+
I am also having the same issue. Plex streams fine outside my network but downloading outside my home network is increadibly slow, less than 1kbps on any client (windows, android, ios). Speedtest shows normal network speeds and nothing else is this slow. It seems to be specific to plex. It’s currently unusable.
Edit: download is abysmal on plex and plexamp apps!
