Using the new downloads feature, I am experiencing slower downloads than if I would directly download from my NAS. With the downloads feature, I peak 20MB/s and average around 10MB/s. When downloading directly from my NAS I reach speeds upwards of 50MB/s
Looks like you are Downloading music. These files are small, so the speed value is going to be a little low to account for the overhead of initiating the download and latencies in your network.
Try downloading a video file and see if the speeds are closer to your expectations.
I just transitioned from Sync to Downloads and also find that Downloads are very slow. Only about 5Mb/sec although I have a 1G fiber connection to the Plex server and my iPhone is on my local WiFi. Hours and hours and it’s still working on a couple of TV show (2-3 seasons each) and a couple of HEVC-encoded movies (so files not that big).
I second everything said in this thread. When I initially transitioned to downloads from sync, I was pleasantly surprised as the speed was good. Now, after each subsequent update the speeds are getting slower and slower. What’s going on with Plex Preview for Android? Is it broke? What happened. I want my speed back!
When a download is initiated while on my local network, does the request go out to the plex server on the internet or it simply goes directly to my local Plex server source to download the files bypassing any internet traffic?
Then it is not the case. It takes for ever to download my mp3 files and they are not as big as you imagine (5 to 10Mb each). Something is rotten in the kingdom of Denmark here.
Please reproduce and provide the logs. Downloads do take a lower priority than streaming so if you were streaming anything at the same time, it could slow down the transfer for Downloads.

I noticed this issue this morning as well. My Android tablet running the Plex app took absolutely forever to download a few TV episodes while my daughter’s iPhone was significantly faster. It seems like the Android app was going out over the internet to download the TV episodes while the iPhone was downloading directly over the LAN. Both devices were connected to the same wifi network in my house at the same time and nothing was being streamed/watched during this time. I’ve attached the logs from my server, hopefully they are the correct ones and will help.
Super slow on my end as well. This is the first time I’ve used the new feature. I’m usually able to download a full season of a TV show overnight. Tried the new download feature and it only showed 5 out of 24 done by the morning, had to cancel the download, which didn’t even save the 5 that showed was completed. This was on a new iPad.
Never had this issue with the “sync” feature before. Bummed I won’t have any shows to watch during this work trip… Guess I’ll start the download a week in advance next time.
Hopefully this is the right log?
I am as well having this problem. Samsung tablet using Downloads on 5G wireless sitting in the same room as the router.
Downloading 2 shows with 6-10 episodes and then ~12 movies. Took for 3PM until Plex server turned off at 12:30am. Then again maybe 5 hours so far today. Still not done but should be enough to show the transfer speed.
I’d also like to add that when I go to the Dashboard, I see that the speeds are hovering around ~10Mbps (1.2MBps) and are marked as Local so it’s not that it’s going out through a remote source and coming back. Even so I have 1gig fiber so it should be faster than that.
Also having slow download with new feature on my iPad. In fact I have not had a successful download yet. After initial failure, I reinstalled Plex on iPad and still slow to download 2 episodes so a show. Logs attached.PlexDebugInfo-polane-7.24.1-1350 (2021-10-26 20.08.50 +0200).zip (610.7 KB)
