I use Plex for streaming music only. I have a large collection and it’s all tagged properly, so I prefer to have Plex set to prefer local metadata. Yet for some reason in the artist view I’m seeing some artists duplicated regardless of tag content.
A simple example: Cocteau Twins appears in the artist view twice. One of them has all their albums except one, which is in the other Cocteau Twins artist. It’s an album they did as a collaboration with another musician. To keep things simple for my collection I have both the artist and the album artist tagged as Cocteau Twins. Plex recognizes this, as when I look at the album the artist is listed as Cocteau Twins, but it still has it separate from the rest of the albums. Looking at the details of this second one I see the biography of Harold Budd, the collaborating musician.
I’m hoping someone can help me figure out why Plex is performing this artist duplication regardless of the fact that it has been set to prefer local metadata. I’ve tried changing the scanner, the agent, etc, but nothing has gotten rid of the duplications.
