I’m trying to figure out if Plex DVR is viable for me living in sweden
Hardware: Nvidia Shield
DVB-C/T: no subscription though some free channels crap (will mainly not get for this) cable in the wall
OTA channels: crap, also allready free above with no subscription, dont own an antenna
Analogue cable TV: All free channels above + a subscription (no drm i think) with alot of channels, same cable as DVB-C/T i can switch between analouge and digital on my TV
It’s a fibercoaxial something, see 3holes on left picture its the bottom left hole
with this cable
So basically I want to be able to use my analogue cable TV (cable in the wall), bonus if i can get the digital channels but not necessary. Can Plex DVR receive analouge channels through a cable? what kind of hardware would I need?
We don’t support analog TV, but a plug like that with DVB-C we do. But if you don’t want the DVB-C channels… I’m not sure what to tell you.
I do want the DVB-C but there are about 4free channels, and through the same cable I have around 15-20 free analogue channels.
Is it sofware specific meaning plex doesn’t support it today but might implement, or is it hardware specific meaning theres nothing to do about it? In my head I just plug a cable in a box i buy somewhere and woilla magic happens but real life is never so simple
One options is getting a DVB-C subscription but that would incur about 400-600USD a year, that would also mean I officially have a TV which would incur almost 300USD of tv lincense ,if I go this route will plex support this as it’s scrambled channels and I guess I need a card from the cable company, alot of money so really need to think, I don’t like TV right now it’s not connected, but I like the idea of Plex TV and might use it again someday
ty for your reply
I doubt we will support analog tv, correct. It’s dead in most countries.
Some countries probably haven’t done the switchover and alot of countries like sweden that have done the switchover a long time ago will probably have analogue broadcasts for another decade but who knows they might pull the plug. My provider had 800.000 customers 2013 and they probably have a “line” to a lot more housing that have opted for other providers they have decided to continue analogue broadcasts (though they still send digital) so I guess a couple of million people with the option of analogue broadcasts “small country”. I guess other countries that officially have “cut the analogue” broadcasts might do the same thing alot of people
So yup it’s supposed to be dead, and I understand supporting legacy systems is not a good business model as it’s supposed to be replaced.
Will search online and see if I can find a analogue to digiatal broadcast converter
Thank you for your reply
I just don’t know of a tuner you can even buy right now that supports DVB-T/C and analog…
Wintv hvr 1975: http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/products/data_hvr1975.html , thinking of running it with tvheadend for the shield if no plex support, there is also the EVROMEDIA Hybrid Volar HD and some others hybrid analog/dbv tuners
Several analog/qam/atsc external usb tuners , some work for the shield also exists
Yup, I know the Avermedia does support it, what area in america still has NTSC signal? Mine doesn’t.
If someones does, and has the supported hardware, we’d love to hear reports if it works.
