Just built my 1st linux system and have it as a dedicated plex server. I access the media drive on this system on a Windows 10 computer using Samba on Ubuntu 16.04.
I have the permissions on the linux machine set in such a way that I can access all the media in the various nested folders of the linux machine from my Windows 10 desktop. I can rename, move, delete, etc.
However, when Plex adds a new show via the DVR, it creates a new folder and that new folder does not inherit the permissions of the parent folder. I cannot move, delete, or play the files over the samba share (I can do so directly via plex apps).
I have added my myself to the plex group, I have fiddle with permissions everywhere. If I go into the command line and manually chmod -R 777, then I do get full access over samba. But it’s not practical to do this every time. Is there a way to change Plex’s default permissions?
There have been several threads about this in this forum. Sorry I can’t link to one right off hand but if you search you should find them. There was one that had a lot of discussion back and forth on how it should be. I have the same problem with my Seagate Personal Cloud so I disabled DVR on it since Plex was the only thing that could do file management on those files & folders.
Modify the umask. Something to read: https://www.google.ro/amp/s/www.cyberciti.biz/tips/understanding-linux-unix-umask-value-usage.html/amp
You should be able to solve the problem with the info in the link.
I am having the same “folder locked” issue with the DVR service on a WD DL4100 and the plex server v 1.9.7.4460 . It will not allow me to change delete or modify the DVR files… Any ideas?
Assuming we want: umask 022
This is the “permissive” level. I’ve just entered that line and will see what happens when the next recording happens.
Didn’t work. I 'm still getting permissions issues trying to delete something.
