I don’t use this method as I have a mixed OS environment (Linux as PMS and MCE on Win7). I do know it can be done. Sorry
i am using Nvidia Shield, external USB 3 drive, HDHomeRun Prime, hard wired, 50/50mbps; anything recorded using h.264 is un-watchable sound is fine, but picture is all covered in digital fuzz/distortion;
recording using Redux, playing things inside my house is ok(not perfect), but trying to stream it from remote location is also unwatchable
HDHomerun native DVR records good quality but navigation, menu, guide and inability to record to external drive is a no go for me
any solution coming from Plex to fix h.264?, i feel like every DVR substitute out there works half-ass; kind of tiered of trying things out

Does MCE convert the media to h.264 mp4, as well as skip commercials.If so, can that be done in the post processing script?
Can the post processing function be a Windows Batch File??
Here’s MCEBuddy’s ‘How To’ for automated use in Plex:

I cover everything in painful detail except for the use of Comskip. When I need that I basically click it’s checkbox and it’s pretty good at what it does. I do use a Custom INI file I based off one I got on the web, but as I recall the one I got was pretty good to start with. The stock INI file isn’t too bad, but depending on the station/network it can miss a few here and there or leave bits of commercials going into or coming out of a break. It does err on the side of Programming and that’s good.
Was watching TV with my wife last night via HDGrandSlam. She had to get up and I instinctively tried hitting pause on the Roku. We’re so close Plex, please…
Plugins aren’t really an option unless they are official when you have a nVidia Shield and don’t want to root it… The official app needs to support Live TV, It’s kind of crazy that it was released with not way to watch Live TV in the first place… Plus, if you are using the official DVR to record, and a plugin to watch Live, who controls access to the Tuner to prevent changing channels when you are recording??

You don’t need to root the nvidia shield to accomplish live tv sooo… not sure what this statement is regarding.
For your second question its called a channel lock.
for the root comment, that was in reference to the comments about the HDGrandSlam channel in this thread, which I don’t believe is in the official channel repository…
I know you can watch TV from the shield without rooting, and channel lock is great, but if different apps are using the tuners, that just doesn’t work. If you have 4 tuners assigned to 2 apps (Plex on Shield, and whichever Apps you wish to use on the shield for live tv on your various devices), and you are watching live tv in one app on the shield, and another app is watching live TV using another tuner, 2 channels are locked… now if you had 3 shows set to record, 1 of them cannot record, and it won’t even tell you… this is why it’s imperative that a single application handle Live TV AND DVR, because then that application can present the viewer with a choice to make, and release the channel lock if desired… For me, I’ve given up on HDHomeRun and the built in DVR for now, and am running a Tablo with the channel in Plex (or the Tablo app on the appropriate device) and will let Tablo handle the tuner locking… I lose the ability to copy shows to Plex supported devices for offline viewing doing this (though if I really want to do that there are ways to do that too, just not built into either platform…), but I get an experience in the house that’s actually functional…
Ok gotcha I see where you are going with this. I am sure that the “feature” (for lack of a better term) you are inquiring about will be added due to necessity. Personally I run NextPVR on my tuners (2 Primes) I let NextPVR handle the locking and only assign the second tuner to Plex for remote viewing. In house (LAN) I dont use Plex with HDHRviewer because it is lacking some functionality, I use SPMC (Kodi for android) with the NextPVR tv add-on on all my clients… It has de-interlacing, DSP and a slough of other features. NextPVR then handles the channel locks, If I record a channel that is being watched it does not require another tuner etc.
My recordings are then added to plex automatically because Plex is set to monitor that folder.
