Plex DVR to live tv in works?

Ok so I am not a plex pass user and curious…

So Plex DVR will simply do that… DVR from my HDHomerun Prime and place them into plex…

but my question is more on**… is there a work for Plex to also show live tv from HDHomerun box in addition to DVRing?
**
I went to the latest Plex and it broke the HDViewer beta channel so had to go back to 0.9.16 and not looking to go forward until there is a supported means to get live tv natively into plex.

Live TV and time-shifting are definitely areas we are interested in. No time-frame to share at the moment.

Check out the DVR FAQ.

Appreciate the response. Yall put that in and im plex pass bound…

I’m a huge fan of Plex. This is the only thing missing. I would buy plex pass for life if this became a thing. It would be awesome if it could support HDHomerun and Ceton cards (windows only).

I’ll add that I’m another person that if live TV with time-shifting is added (I tend to want news on in the background at most times), Plex would have my Plex Pass renewal indefinitely. As of now, although I think Plex has a beautiful and superior product, my live TV needs are what will get priority with my entertainment spend. I’m sure Plex has time into developing this feature, but I won’t hold my breath for DRM; although I’d think if companies like Cyberlink and SD can implement it, why not Plex? Great job on the DVR-beta (and love the titles!).

Have you tried the HDGrandSlam plug-in?
It works with the latest version of Plex and give you LIVE TV from a Plex Client

hmmm ill have to check that out! Thanks!

I have someone else going to do the hdhomerun prime box as he is setting up a plex server. he too is looking to go plex pass for kid control… as I would too… so I will look at this, this weekend and let you know

OMG IM IN LOVE!!!

ummm I had a few beverages so ill wait till this weekend to really see and post… but on android and winderz all twerkin!!!

I really like the interface of Emby with regards to live TV (I prefer Plex overall). It’s Live TV/DVR/Time Shifting is laid out like a normal STB guide and from that interface you can click on a channel and go live, or record a show, etc. It is just laid out like every cable box I’ve had with a guide showing shows and the ability to click and select “record” from the same place you can click “watch”. I hope Plex guys have at least played with it as I just bought myself a FireTV to mess with and the Emby app has solid live TV working right now. Currently I’m still relying on Plex for the recordings because I really appreciate how Plex matches my shows with 99.9% (or better?) accuracy. Emby gets maybe 90%. So for every 10 movies/shows I put on there one of them even when names TITLE (YEAR).ext still match incorrectly. I’m waiting for either Plex to get live TV or Emby to get better at matching shows. Of course, it is easy to manually match shows but it’s a pain to have to do it. Plex just makes it so easy.

Anyway, just my 2-cents for live TV.

I have had a Plex Pass for many years now, and was very surprised that the OTA tuner integration was completed without the Live TV functionality. I have a lot of recorded content I can watch already. Lets please make use of the OTA Tuner for Live TV. Please & thank you.

Already a couple of channels that does this. I agree that it should be a feature instead of an add-on channel but it works great.

Awesome! What channels are those. My searching earlier did not produce any. I would love to check them out.

I use HDHomerun Viewer v2, but HDGrandslam works well also.

Correct me if I am wrong but neither of those channels transcode on-the-fly?

I am betting HDGrandSlam must transcode as I do not believe a browser has the ability to play . ts files.

Just guessing here.

I do see some increased CPU activity when HDGrandSlam is running.

There are issues with this transcoding stream I do not understand. Am going to continue to play with it as this is, after all, a Beta period,

Mainly on the HDHomeRun Prime, transcoding while recording, yields un-watchable media files in mkv with h.264 & AAC, … Skipping and heavy artifacts when the output file is played.

I have an HDHR prime and I gave up transcoding altogether because it failed every time. Now, it’s just a .ts file and I use MCE and comskip to do the job.

Does MCE convert the media to h.264 mp4, as well as skip commercials.

If so, can that be done in the post processing script?

Can the post processing function be a Windows Batch File??

@ucjb
Have you reported these facts??

This is a Beta Test (By a VERY loose definition) after all…

Plex needs the feedback if this testing phase is to be useful.

Unless, as in many other threads, Plex just ignores the issues discovered and reported here.

Does MCE convert the media to h.264 mp4, as well as skip commercials. Yes, and commskip takes out commercials.

If so, can that be done in the post processing script? Yes

@ucjb

Cool
Can you share your post processing script that accomplishes that??
