@timb333 did that fix the micategorisation issue?
@bridjee No, however I suspect there could be cached data. Not sure how to clear that quickly without resetting up DVR function in Plex. Iāll try passing in an empty xmltv file then reloading populated fileā¦
I deleted the DVR function in all cases to change the XML source. The only one that appears to be working is the icetv source. No luck here will keep playing, would be good if someone from Plex could assist.
@bridjee Passing empty xmltv then populated one made no difference - eg: āNITV Newsā is still a movie according to Plex. However, Iām pretty sure itās stale cache from what I had before. Shepherd works fine so at lease Iāll have guide data for recording.
In DVR settings, thereās an option down the bottom to specify the news and sports categories. I have mine set up like this:
Thanks @DaveBinM I tried this and also tried the setting recommended by IceTV. Have you tried this with freeEPG with some of the examples we tried with success?
Next question is for the other categories of show like drama etc are there plans to extend the categories listed?
No, Iāve not used FreeEPG, Iāve been using IceTV since it was supported in Plex (although I do tear down and set up the DVR at least a couple of times a month for testing purposes).
Iām not aware of any plans to extend the categories at the moment.
@DaveBinM Why not just honour the tag from xmltv files? Or at least expose Plexās preferred categories in the GUI (ie: in addition to news and sports) so users can make their own mappings?
The tags are honoured, but itās handled in a way that things are either Movies, Shows, News, or Sports. Within there, there are genre tags. So You can have Cooking in a TV show from the tags, but News and Sports are just handled a little differently to make them easier to find. Hereās an example below.
@DaveBinM Thanks for the explanation, Dave.
Another repercussion of miscategorisation - library selection for recordings. eg: Plex thinks āSBS World Newsā is a movie, thus, when I try to schedule this program to record, Plex only offers Movie libraries as destinationsā¦
@DaveBinM Thanks for your responses on this thread. Next time you rebuild you DVR would you be able to setup freeepg to have a look at the behaviour?
Has anyone else got this issue with the ICETV mapping?

So channel one not 12 appears in the guide even though only, 11,12, & 13 are selected

The LCNās are located in the dropdown box to the right of the screenshot you provided. My Ice TV is mapped to my Favourites bouquet perfectly.
I created a very basic script to create an xmltv file from the āepgā provided by the hdhomerun. Iām sure it is full of errors, but it is working for me at the moment and allows me to skip icetv.
The epg provided by the hdhomerun is only about 24 hours in advance, but it is good enough for DVR and for TV shows on now.
Note that I only have one hdhomerun, so there are some hardcoded values in the script.
The script is here if youāre keen to try it out

Iām in the UK and happy that at the moment Plex have not decided to no longer give me a free EPG, wonder how long that will last?
But why are Plex not able to incorporate free EPGās for Australia into their guide, instead of making people use a subscription service?
Thanks @TrialMaster I have the same mapped however they show up in the guide like the screenshot above. In your case channel 1 should show up in the guide as channel 14. In my instance shown, even though 10 bold is mapped to channel 12 is shows in the guide as channel 1. Channel 1 in my instance is not selected at all so should not show in the guide at all
Yeah I see what youāre wanting to achieve but the way it is displaying channels is by LCN order so what you are seeing is expected behaviour. Plex doesnāt allow for users to change the order, that would be nice so I could group my channels by provider.
Agreed, this how it was before the xml selection. This maybe an ice issue as well as the freeview epg has a channel 12 Bold, but not in the selection from icetv.
1 & 12 LCNās point to same channel. Is there any particular reason you want the channel to appear twice in the guide?
