Plex Early Access

Was using the playlist on the Vizio Smartcast TV after the new update and it now shows the playing next screen now and only plays for 2 hours now and and stops playing.

I’ll file an issue to look into that.

Ive ran into an issue where you try to resume playback from screensaver and the screen remains black but you can hear it playing, this is on tv series not sure about movies.

Version - 5.0.9
Platform version - 4
Samsung tv

I think this should be fixed in 5.0.10. Let me know if you still have an issue.

On the old app, there is indeed the ability to go back and forth in the movie with ‘up’ and ‘down’ keys. If there are chapters, you navigate through chapters this way, otherwise you go 10 minutes by 10 minutes. This is missing in the new app.

I use an LG smart TV with smart remote. After installing early access, the smart remote doesn’t work anymore. Normally I can point with the arrow (just like a mouse) and click but in the early access version, I can only use the direction buttons.
So, I installed the previous version and now, it all works.
If this issue is fixed, I surely try again


I just tried the early access on my LG TV. Haven’t noticed any issue so far on my end. My only nitpick is there is no option to go back to the default screensaver (the one with the plex logo and black screen). It’s just cycling the thumbnails of movies and shows.

Hi, just tried early access release on my LG 65C9 after prompt. Got into what looked like setup screens to which it said ‘it looks like you have more than one server’, I don’t to my knowledge. Anyhow, it just kept showing the loading circle and wouldn’t allow selection of any servers (didn’t show any either), it auto skipped to next screen and I finished setup. After this I could not get the app to find the server which is on local network and linked to my Plex account. I signed out and back in, ensured server was up-to-date and still no connection. Couldn’t get new app to find my server. I selected ‘Leave early access’ and reverted to normal app, server found straight away after re-linking, no issues. Something is wrong in the new app. Good luck! :slight_smile:

The early access app seems to handle subtitles differently. They are slimmer and less readable and skip some lines occasionally

I tried to use the plex Early Access and when I try to access to a remote server, the new app can’t locate it. So I leave the early access and return to the original one.

Please repair it, the new app looks nice.

Will not play 4k video. I direct Stream video with the Original version no problems but I’m unable to stream any 4k material with the Early Access version. Also 1080p material is buffering a lot more than with the Orginal Version even low bit rate shows. As other have mentioned I miss the x1 x2 x3 ect fast forward commands. Client Version 5.0.12 Platform Version 3.3.0

In addition to loosing 4k playback I’ve also lost Dolby Vision playback

Using Plex early access on an LG signature Oled with webos. Had to back it out as functionality for the magic remote doesn’t work at all, selection to type in password doesn’t work unless I move to guest and then back to my login, and then basic navigation doesn’t work to back out of shows etc. even without the magic remote functionality. Works slower than previous version. Can not shake remote or click to see where the movie/show is at. Seems like a step backward :confused: at least at this point. Good luck with the upgrade though I appreciate you guys.

On LG WebOS. PLEX App ver 5.0.12. For now playing music screen, please don’t display the album art in the middle and so big. It is covering our carefully curated beautiful artist background art. Instead display small album art on lower left with song, artist name, and album to right of it. Also, why is PLEX screen saver coming on showing other background art when playing music for about 5 minutes? Artist background art should always be displayed when song is playing. I won’t use PLEX if it stays like this.

After turning on the beta, movies play no problem, but all my tv programs are none stop buffering.
Obviously these would playback before the beta no problems so it took me a couple of days to realise the problem was the beta.
Hope you can get this fixed before rolling it out. (Love the new UI though)

I’m closing this topic as the original issue is fixed, and it’s becoming a mix of Vizio (for which this thread is tagged) and LG issues and I can’t even tell which are which for some of them. If you’ve posted something I haven’t answered about Vizio, please feel free to start a new thread about your issue with the vizio-preview tag and I’ll happily address them. For LG use lg-webos so the LG developer will be able to see them (he’s probably not going to see them here :slightly_smiling_face:).
