Server Version#: 1.22.1.4228 Windows 10 v20H2 x64
Player Version#:
After the following three changes, my Vizio TV app no longer loads, presumably searching for the server and not able to find it. When I launch the app I get an eternal spinner. I don’t know which update broke it, but the web client from other computers and the Roku work fine.
PMS update
Win 10 update from v2004 to v20H2 (took such a short time, I didn’t believe it updated)
changed the Plex server “Friendly name”
I changed the server name back to what it was before, but that did not help.
The TV’s DLNA app can get to the Plex media, so I know it is not a networking issue.
The server log shows:

But those errors look familiar when the app was working, so they may be irrelevant to this problem.
Could you give some details on what you mean by this? What do you see after you click the icon to launch the app up until the time you get the eternal spinner?
I believe I’m running into a similar issue since a recent update. I think this happened when the beta/early access became the regular app.
I can load my own local server/content fine.
But I cannot access my friend’s server on my TV. It just spins, then times out with a connection error. I can access their server fine on my PC.
Tried fully clearing Plex settings on TV, re-login, etc
Full power cycle including disconnecting the plug
Tried setting ALL connections unsecured
TV model: Vizio M507-G1 (Basically a watered down Black Friday special model vesion of the M658-G1. It’s from Costco).
Plex app on TV:
Client version: 5.12.1
Platform version: 1.0.13_1.0.13.29_2031_0017
Chipset: MTK-5597
I’m really hoping it’s not the chipset no longer being supported.
Is it possible this is due to secured/unsecured connections?
Do you mean immediately you have a spinner? That sounds like the TV spinner before the app even loads (the app doesn’t have a spinner while it’s loading). What is your TV model?
We did have a deploy issue about that time which was resolved. Hopefully that resolved the issue for them.
Preview became the regular app about 2 months ago, so that doesn’t seem likely, unless you haven’t tried this other server since before then.
We did have a fix go out today that might help, but I’m not sure how likely that is. If it doesn’t, maybe I can get some logs from you.
I’m having this issue too with TV Model Name: D65u-D2. It’s saying I’m using Plex version 1.0.1 in the VIZIO app settings. Unfortunately I didn’t have remote logs set-up before this (and I can’t now since I can’t get into the TV app to change it). I can also confirm it’s not a networking issue.
The update did not fix the Vizio TV app issue. All my users and myself are still having the same issue.
We can load into the server, but clicking a movie or tv episode will end in a ~2min loading screen with no % numbers and will eventually error out with
Playback Error
An unexpected playback problem occured.
EDIT: I’m assuming you mean Plex Server update. I have updated my Plex server to the latest version, no change.
The issue started about a month or so ago and I haven’t been able to watch my buddy’s server, but I didn’t investigate further as the issue started right when he started moving (thought it was that). But since he’s settled in I noticed I could access on PC, just not TV.
Anyway I just checked right now and it’s working! Yesterday’s update seems to have fixed my issue, so it was something similar but different from these other users.
Thanks for the response regardless, appreciate it.
Cheers.
Um not sure, Plex has been working fine ever since I got it…until last month. I contacted vizio support and they said it was basically out of their hands (tried everything short of a factory reset).
I can’t say exactly when but Plex stopped launching on my Vizio M65-C1 (within the last month or two). It continues to work perfectly on all other devices on my home network, some devices being 10 years older than the Vizio. When I launch the Plex app, the screen displays a spinning white circle on a black screen. All other apps work, including Netflix. I’m using the latest Plex server on the latest Win10 OS on a really great home computer I built. Without going into all that exhaustive detail, I’m convinced that the Plex player software on the Vizio has become incompatible with the M65-C1. I’ve reset the Vizio to factory settings and reloaded Plex, with no change in result. I get about 40MB/s wifi connection, so doing a direct connection won’t probably change anything. I would just like to know if my TV is no longer compatible, or if Plex will make a change and it will soon become compatible, or if I need to maybe use a compatible stick. I appreciate the Vizio is 5 years old but it’s hard to take that my very excellent 4K Smart TV with still the latest wi-fi hardware is no longer compatible with one of the most popular home network streaming applications. Thanks for any factual information.
I have an old Vizio M50-C1 and experienced a similar issue.
Server was up, I could stream fine using Android app but I’d not used the Vizio Plex app in a while.
When I started the Vizio Plex app, it started but reported it couldn’t connect to the previously configured Plex server. The retry and home buttons did nothing. If I exited the app, next time I tried to run the Vizio Plex app, I got the Vizio OS spinning wheel (trying to start app) indefinitely.
Powering cycling the TV made no difference. The only way to stop the infinite spinning wheel (from Vizio OS) when trying to run Plex app was a factory reset of the TV
I removed the Vizio device from the plex server, factory reset the TV. Was prompted to reconnect (plex.tv/link). Same situation as above re-occurred.
I then upgraded my plex server to 1.21.1.3876 (latest available for docker.io/plexinc/pms-docker:latest), did the Vizio TV factory reset, did the reconnect (plex.tv/link) and it’s now working again.
I had to manually add the ip address of my plex server to the plex app in a brand new vizio v655-h9 in order for it to see my server. Good thing it’s on my local network. I am not sure how that would work on an external network if you have dynamic ip setup from your isp.
It looks like your TV is no longer supported. Many of the older models are using even older technology which means the old app is no longer compatible with the latest security updates.
The app is currently only supported on SmartCast models, so any TVs running a old OS (e.g. VIA) are no longer getting updates and will either no longer work or may experience various issues.
What I generally suggest is getting an inexpensive Roku or Android device.
My server was down so the Vizio app legitimately displayed the error screen. I restarted the server but selecting retry on the app error screen did nothing and selecting “home” just endlessly displayed the Plex “…” ptogress indicator.
At this point the app had seeminghly corrupted its internal storage as trying to run it again (after power cycling the TV) permentently displays the Vizio OS spinning icon indicating an app is loading (which normally displays for only 1 second) but the app never starts. All other apps still start normally.
At this point the only option is to factory reset the TV and relink.
No app should corrupt itself such that it cannot start.
Its too bad Plex is so blase about discontinuing support.
