Plex Fireside in the Forum 2024

Hi. First of all, I want to express just how much I appreciate that you guys are doing stuff like this to keep in touch with the community. In this day and age where everything we buy seems to be purposely becoming worse and getting even further disconnected from customers, I’m glad that Plex is standing out as the exception. This is an awesome gesture that you’re doing for the community and I hope we can continue to see more like it.

I have a few questions.

  1. Earlier today, it was announced that Tidal would be ending its integration with Plex in a few months. I, like many other Plexamp users, am greatly disappointed by this, because Plexamp with Tidal has enabled discovery of new music like nothing else I’ve ever used. So many features were made even better with Tidal’s huge library. I hope a replacement for Tidal can be put into place as soon as possible. My question is: will the removal of Tidal integration impact or further delay the long-anticipated Plexamp v5 release? I think I speak for a lot of Plexamp users when I say we’ve been waiting for this update for a long time, so it’d be great to hear some kind of update on when we can expect it, even if it’ll be a little bit longer.
  2. Can you tell us anything about what new features are planned for Plexamp? I feel like it’d be nice for us to have something to look forward to right now.

P.S.: This next thing isn’t a question, but I saw some others in this thread ask for features like credits for multiple artists on a track, support for singles, and alias names for artists. Just wanted to say that I heavily vouch for the addition of these features, especially aliases. Some tracks and albums in my library have the artist’s names in their native scripts where others don’t, and they show up as different artists, which is frustrating. So it’d be nice to link the different aliases together under a single artist, using alias data from MusicBrainz.
