Plex Fireside in the Forums

Please add Plex premium TV channels for a monthly fee or partner with someone!! That’s the only input I have, keep up the good work!!

I’d really love an update to the Seach bar- particularly in the web browser that can help filter out a movie or tv series.

Currently, you can filter by All Media, Movie & Shows, etc, and that’s great for many searches, but when you’re trying to locate a movie and want to also search using the year, that would be great.

I’d like to input, for example: “A Star is Born 1954” and get that singular result instead of every tile in my collection that includes “Star” “Born” etc.

Episode specific Cast list
Using my Android phone I can look at (many) TV series episodes and see the guest actor(s) that appeared in the single episode.

However, using the Roku Plex Player, and I look at the cast while watching an episode I see every actor who ever appeared in the series.

Are you going to bring this feature on moble to other devices like Roku?

For Live TV&DVR: Is it even possible to start watching OTA live TV (with a Plex Pass) and during the program, select Record and still include the previous portion just watched along with the rest of the program?

I (and I see others) have asked a few times, but I never catch a response. Even a Plex employee saying: “we hear you, but we will never do that” would, at least, let me know to not ask in the future.

Maybe automatically consider Live TV watching as a scheduled recording (in it’s own area or directory) and if someone selects Record while watching, that program along with what was just watched, can be moved out of the special area/directory and placed in the proper Library section…?

Are plex planning an implementing a user-configurable forced buffer to compensate for the current underprovisioning that causes playback to stutter on a litany of devices in certain scenarios?

Able to manually set a configurable buffer on the windows desktop client as it utilizes MPV and though a little hacky, it works, but this currently isn’t an option on other platforms in any form and playback can still suffer for it.

Some of these are just votes for things listed above, some or things I’ve always wondered about. I’ve been using Plex for six or so years and a lifetime Plex pass for five of those. Love the product, just want it to be better and for Plex to succeed.

  • True support tickets - One of these days Plex is going to have to start acting like a real software company instead of a shareware business model. This means someone who has a Plex pass should have a way other than the forum to put in a support ticket and have it addressed.

  • Ability to support self authentication in case Plex servers go away - This has been mentioned before but I just wanted to express my support for the idea that for those of us who use Plex to stream our content to a local TV on our network, it makes no sense that we should have to authenticate through your server to accomplish that.

  • Slideshow on photos for tvOS and iOS - wasn’t this something that photos was advertised to do when it was introduced and then it just went away? It works on web but not the others.

  • Allow for vertical or horizontal posters on all video libraries - This comes into play for the generic video library which only supports horizontal posters.

  • Ability to scan video for specific episode posters - Speaking of posters for those family videos, it would be nice to pick the episode or poster frame manually instead of only three frames that may all be blank.

  • True backup and restore of your media server - I would love this. Just a built in way to export out a file that a new server install could import and quickly move your Plex server from point A to point B

  • Built in export of metadata instead of using third party tools like Export Tools

  • Ability to blend libraries - Essentially create a Group of libraries. Maybe a Group of all Movie Libraries, or a group of Documentary Movies and Educational TV shows.

  • Ability to remove deleted users from database - I don’t want to scroll through 30 people who STILL haven’t watched anything in the last 7 days.

  • Ability to create alias names for users

  • Not sure why but audio is very low on tvOS

  • Sync feature set of tvOS with WebOS, specifically the ability to search for director or writer films in tvOS like you can on web.

  • Support for “behind the scenes” and “other” videos for TV shows like we have on Movies across all client apps. - Until then they have to go into Specials I guess

OMG YES PLEASE!!!

The bug is still in a new state → [FFmpeg-devel,3/3] lavf/id3v2dec: support multiple values and TIPL frames - Patchwork

Regardless, even when (if) ffmpeg accept this change then plex would need to pick it up from them as they bundle ffmpeg within plex. I’m open to correction on this but I believe its a long time since they refreshed ffmpeg as they are running a custom version specific for their needs.

Hi,

when will Plex resolve the issue with Samsung smart TV app. I don’t understand all the work in upgrading the app and giving it new functionalities when app itself isn’t usable. It is very laggy and slow and can’t be enjoyed. Other similar apps on Samsung work just fine. You messed something up in the core functionality of the app and you should focus on fixing that rather than building upon something that’s not working properly.

On what exact model with what version of the Plex app are you experiencing this?

I’m not home right now so I can’t check. Samsung TV is 2018.
My issues are mostly covered in this topic Plex on Samsung and LG Smart TV become slow and lagging interface - Plex Players / Smart TVs - Plex Forum
I’ll update this post with model and app version once I get home.

Hi @jessebarlas!

I’m happy to confirm that supporting alternative orders from TVDB is already on the roadmap.

While I don’t have any firm details to share, I do know we are looking at making some improvements to how we handle subtitles when transcoding, so I have passed on this feedback to the team to keep in mind.

I can’t say that I have seen transcoding issues like this in my own use of the LG WebOS App. That said I will take a look at the related forum thread and see if there is something I have missed. Thanks for the report

Are there any plans to give photos some more love? I really like having them in Plex, but it does feel like features have been going in one direction with it (autotagging, camera upload, etc.). I’d love to see some more features from clients like Google Photos or other third party ones (such as map heatmaps for photos, searching and organisation based on facial recognition, etc.)

The Apple TV had had sound sync issues for almost four years, this is unacceptable and it should be considered a show stopper. Plex has been very defensive about this problem, denying it exists for very long, then accepting it exists but blaming others for it (notice Infuse does not have such problems), people have been banned from the forums for expressing their frustration in a polite way (including me), and so on. We the users only want the thing to work, we have been extremely patient about this but come on, it is going to be four years soon. Any special plan to fix this? Are you creating an elite team just to fix this because it is something very fundamental and it is one of the most popular clients? Should we instead forget about it and move on? Thanks.

A manual audio sync adjustment is just a band aid. That’s not a solution.

The recently added home screen personalization feature of Plexamp is one of my favourite additions to Plex ever. That makes Plex feel truly personal. I am wondering if there is any plan to apply such personalization features into the main Plex app (change poster size and form, order hub rows, etc).

ffmpeg is capable of doing subtitle burn in using multiple cores. Is there a reason for Plex to use only a single core for this? Also is hw being untilized? When I check dashboard, it says 'hw" yet one core is at 100%. This is in contrast to behavior of transcoding without subtitles, where ‘hw’ is also shown but cores are at minimal usage (sub 10%) (because the iGPU is being used).

Hi,

I just wanted to say thank you for creating this thread; it really surprised me in a good way. Thank you for all the hard work you’ve put in. There were so many new features that I liked, such as Watch Together and Discover.

Now, I have a few questions:

1. Watch Together
The Watch Together feature is good, but I think it’s not quite finished yet. It works well for movies, but with series, it’s a bit complicated to use. I always have to start a new session, and that’s a little irritating, especially when watching 20-minute episodes. Are there plans to further develop this feature, or is it considered finished as it is?

2. Discover
I frequently use the Discover feature, and I noticed there’s an RSS feed for my watchlist. I also saw that there’s an RSS feed for my friends’ watchlists. My question is: Are there any plans to add the username or ID to the RSS list, so we can distinguish between users more easily?

3. Frontend Home Page
This isn’t a big issue, but I’d like some clarification. I noticed that the frontend uses sockets when media is added. However, it seems to work only for the admin account. Any other account invited to the server has to refresh the page. Is this the intended behavior, or is it a bug?

Thank you once again for your hard work and for creating such a great platform!
