Plex for iPadOS doesn't allow iPad to sleep after finishing an episode of TV

Server Version#: 1.41.5.9522
Player Version#: 2025.10.2 (981)
Platform Version: 16.7.10

Since upgrading to the new version of Plex for iPadOS, I have noticed that after playing an episode of TV, my iPad doesn’t automatically go to sleep anymore. I have autoplay next episode disabled, so it brings me to the Just Played screen, but then the screen stays on until I close Plex, manually lock the screen, or until the battery runs out on my iPad.

Reproduction steps:

  1. Disable auto play
  2. Play an episode from a TV library
  3. You can scroll to the end or let the episode play
  4. When the episode finishes and you are brought to the Just Played screen, observe that the iPad will just stay on indefinitely.

I also have this problem, my iPad stayed awake for over 30 mins after an episode stopped.

The developers just need to set isIdleTimerDisabled once a video stops playback so that user iOS devices can sleep again.

I have the same problem, only sometimes it restarts the show/movie with that screen still showing, so only audio. Other times the movie will restart with video and audio.
I wake up with a dead iPad. Good times.

Same issue here. iPad Pro on ipadOS 17.7.6vand plex version 2025.15.0.

I’m actually starting to believe it’s a server side issue. I started using the web client (safari) as a presumed workaround. I played one of the titles that wouldn’t end, but would restart the movie in the plex iPadOS app and viola it acted in the same manner as the iPadOS player. The movie restarted and would have gone on and on in an infinite loop if I hadn’t woke up and shut it down.

I’m no expert, (and clearly as evidenced by the “new experience” debacle, neither are Plex devs), but methinks it has to do with the server software when importing a new movie screwing up the credits somehow causing this.

But it’ll be a while before it gets fixed as no one from plex seems to give bleep.

And before any of you forum professional devils advocates/toxic contrarians tell me, “hey man, why don’t you repost in server”. My reply in advance is, if they don’t give bleep in players, WTH will posting in servers do?

I’m not a dev, I don’t know what these people want for information, nor, quite frankly whether I’m adequately describing the problem. All I do know is, for the last 10 plus years that I’ve been running Plex as a neophyte IT. JUST. WORKED. Now not so much.

Such a shame.

@Selpro The change in behavior coincided with an update of my iOS app and not a server update which was why I was leaning more towards is being a player behavior. Also, it doesn’t happen on AppleTV which hasn’t gotten an updated player app yet. Who knows though. Hopefully someone reports this to the devs soon. It’s a little frustrating that people take the time to write up bug reports with repro steps and no one from Plex even seems to read the posts.

It seems the posts that get attention are from folks who have near dev level talent themselves and as such are able to articulate the problem better than a ham and egger like myself.

I installed it and it just worked for many years, both the server and mobile app software.

Maybe the devs want to deal with the low hanging fruit first, the underhand pitches thrown by the user guru types.

Or, maybe they’re just lazy and don’t want to unwrap a layman’s post and get to the bottom of what’s going on.

I don’t know, I just wish they’d fix it.

I think this may be fixed. Can someone else test and confirm?

Not fixed for me, unfortunately.
