Plex for LG can't play files that Plex App can

Server Version#: 1.21.0.3616
Player Version#:Plex for LG 5.5.1

I have some files that were played well on both my computer with Plex App or Plex on a web browser and my Plex for LG WebOS.

My SD card on my raspberry crashed and I installed a fresh system and manage to keep the plex db. All my files are played nicely on my computer but not anymore on my Plex for LG WebOS.

Like I’m on the same network, I tried to check if the transcode was disabled (PMS > Transcoder > Disable video stream transcoding + Plex for LG App > Video > Local Quality > Original, Remote Quality > Original). I tried to play around with Allow Direct Play, Allow Direct Stream… but nothing.

In the log, it seems like Plex is trying to transcode and I don’t understand why.

I suppose that there is a new option in the Plex for LG App that appeared and break this.

I saw some other people having the same issues on the forum but I tried the solution and it doesn’t work.

Any idea please?

Thank you

I tried some other settings but still no luck!
Am I the only one experiencing this kind of problem?

I tried to reset the Plex for LG app but still no luck.

Anyone?

What file types please?

same problems

LG 55B6V - cannot work with 4k HEVC video :frowning:

@SE56: Very good question!

It seems like this is a problem related to .avi container with MEPG4 codec. I tried some movies I already watched that doesn’t work anymore.

.mkv, .mp4… are allright.

Why the app stop working all of the sudden?

Any clue?

@benzionovna: I’m happy to see I’m not the only one

@SE56: Any idea concerning the file types?

@benzionovna: Do you find something else?

@philpw99_gmail_com: Can’t see your reply anymore but I tried to reset the app with no success. Altought, those files that I can play anymore, I was able to see them before. Do you think it’s possible that my TV can’t read it anymore?

Thank you all

I deleted my reply because I just found out resetting the app won’t fix my problem.
My files was playing just fine before. I can see in play details that DTS was re-encoded into AC3. Then just one week or two ago it suddenly became a mess. I think it’s an update from LG screwed it up. There is no way to fix it by changing anything in Plex.

отвратительный форум и оформление :frowning:

i do not see parallel between container and codec

i have ds218+ synology and then started watch - Thats not power to convert video
Something broke and cannot stream direct media

@benzionovna:
The movies that I can’t play anymore are with this properties (in Media Info):

  • Container AVI
  • Codec MPEG4

Is it bad?

Did you try to set your App (the player) to see the maximum quality (it allows to stream directly without conversion)?

I have a RaspberryPi4 whose is less powerful than your NAS and it works pretty fine, even with 4k.

AVI is an old format. Has audio sync problems for a long time.
MP4 and MKV are much better.
Plex is just a server, it’s supposed to just transfer files and no heavy-liftings, so Pi4 is fine as long as you don’t do any transcoding.

The WebOS TV app latest update has fixed avi

@SE56: Thank you for the information! So, it’s related to the WebOS Plex App.
Nice to hear that it’ll be solved
Do you know when it’ll be released?

If you go to WebOS app settings and select about you can confirm if there is a fix. You must have opted in for Preview which it looks like you have done so.
