Plex for Surface Pro 2

Server Version#: 1.19.3.2843
Player Version#: From windows store.

Hey all, I’m curious if anyone can help. I have a surface pro 2 with Plex installed. I wanted to check for updates but I don’t see it in the play store anymore. From my understanding this has been removed. Can someone confirm this?

If it has actually been removed if I refresh the PC I will lose plex on it? Currently the website app.plex.com doesn’t work and just sits at the loading screen.

Any help would be appreciated.

There’s been a mention in a blog post in August last year that the old Windows Plex app will be discontinued (and instead introduced a new desktop app for Mac/Windows).

Not a Windows guy… so I’m not sure if/how you can best backup the client to re-install (copy back) after doing a clean-install of that Surface of yours.
You might want to check out the section about backing up your files in Microsoft’s related knowledge article:

PS: the website is http://app.plex.tv/desktop (not plex.com)

Thanks for the information! That is quite unfortunate since the surface 2 can’t install the desktop app and plex doesn’t seem to work with IE11. The surface 2 has no other options.

Would you know of an alternative I could use?

If you had previously downloaded the Old Microsoft Store version of the plex app, it should still be available.
Launch the Microsoft Store app,
Click on the three dots …
Click on downloads & Updates
On the left hand side click on All Owned
there in the list should be the Original Windows Store app.
On the right hand side of the app there should be the install button.

I am still using the old app, specifically for the sync and transcode ability which work best with mp4 files
