Plex for Windows Cannot download for offline viewing

Player Version#: 3.2.20

Windows based app doesn’t have option to download content from the server. I have an upcoming intercontinental flight and want to use my Surface Book which has lots of storage to watch plex content offline.

Help page at Download for Offline Access - Windows & MacOS | Plex Support wasn’t helpful as it assumed that the menu to download is present, which it is not.

Given that the Windows app hasn’t been updated in nearly 5 years, is the Windows client just abandonware at this point?

Are you using the app from the Microsoft store? That app was discontinued quite some time ago (years).

Download Plex for Windows from plex.tv.

Scroll to bottom of this page. Select Apps & Devices under Downloads.

Yep, that would be the problem - and of course, now that it’s no longer in the Windows store, Microsoft doesn’t offer an easy way to remove the old one… :man_facepalming:

Does the app appear in your start menu? If so, can you right click on it and choose Uninstall?

Even if you cannot remove the old app, both should co-exist OK on your computer.

The new app will install in c:\program files\etc.

Apps from the app store install in c:\program files\WindowsApps\
