Plex for Windows download defaults to old version

Hello,
I’m new to plex and going through the first time setup as a player consumer of Plex. Just raising a potential issue which came from a reddit post.

I went to download Plex for Windows
https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/#plex-app
And when I opened Plex, the Sign In button wouldn’t respond when clicked.

So I found this reddit post.
https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/d9k5xw/try_as_i_might_i_cant_get_past_the_sign_in_screen/

And apparently the Plex download page for Windows defaults to an old version.
Player Version#: 1.67.2.3705-db506a00
https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/#plex-app

Reddit post provided a link to a much newer version: v2.57.0

The dates are confusing too, as there’s “April 12, 2023” on the download page,
but May '20 for the newer version.

The Sign In button on v2.57.0 also doesn’t respond.

Can this be investigated and addressed by support please?

Plex Media Player is an older, discontinued media player. Its final version was 2.57.0 (from 3’ish years ago), and it is no longer being developed. It is not new and I would not recommend using it at this point.

It was effectively replaced by two different, new clients: Plex for Windows/Mac/Linux and Plex HTPC. Plex for Windows is the desktop client, intended to be controlled by a mouse and keyboard. Plex HTPC is an HTPC app, with a 10-foot interface and intended to be controlled by a remote.

Thank you so much for the extra info.

I’ve copied that info into the reddit post so it’s clearer for the next person.

Installed the newer Plex for Windows and this time round the Sign In button worked too.

Thanks again
