Using a Windows PC with Remote Control

I finally decided to create a HTPC, but found that the HTPC version of Plex is now abandoned. I tried using the Windows Desktop app, but it will not work with a remote control. It seems only work with a mouse - not even with a keyboard. Does anyone have any ideas how to get a remote to work with Plex - other than using a FireTV or similar? Android devices don’t support all codecs that Windows does and can be quite sluggish. Thoughts?

What makes you believe, Plex HTPC has been abandoned?
If you want to build a HTPC to work with a remote, Plex HTPC should be the go-to solution.

I assumed it was because it is no longer downloadable on the Plex website and some users on Reddit claim it has been abandoned. Is it being developed by someone else now? Is it on the website and I just cannot find it?

In case that link doesn’t go straight to the right entry, look for the “Plex HTPC” platform, and find Windows under that.

Last version is July, but the stand-alone windows desktop version was last updated august, so only a week apart. I think that the devs are working on the rework of these two apps, to add the new (crappy) overhaul they added to the mobile and TV apps first.

Wow! Thanks. How did you find that? I could not find it myself on their site. I will try it out.

I went to downloads. You’d expect it to be next to their Desktop Windows client, but it’s just under that in the “HTPC” platform instead.

Thanks! I found it. Not very intuitive, but I still should have found it.
