Plex has become very buggy

Hi guys
I’m not a techy person so I will explain as best I can.

First off I want to mention Plex and windows 10 have installed a few updates in last couple of months and now my media won’t resume and some won’t even play so have to start from the beginning and skip my way to where I left off. Seems to be only affecting newer stuff I’ve added.
I’m running up to date Plex server on windows 10 pc and Amazon fire TV running Plex to play I assume the Amazon fire TV app auto updates I never get any notifications

Any help will be appreciated let me know if you need any more details.

Thanks

It happens - a lot.
I would go back to the previous version or just wait for the next.
Maybe not the issue but if your fire tv is using wifi - things can always get odd!

Thanks for the reply. It was working flawlessly before they updated

Plex can’t develop a working app for Android and they sure as HELL can’t develop a working app for AFTV.
Trust me, I know, because I’ve owned an AFTV for 6 long years and have to resort to my Roku for Plex. The most recent unmitigated disaster is no exception to Plex’s Golden Rule regarding Android Devices - “We Just Don’t Give A S***”.

Your options:

  1. Live with it.
  2. Downgrade to the last working version. <— at least you can say you had a version that worked once… I can’t.

So you had a fire TV before it was even released 4 years ago? Interesting!

Well, I have a gen 1 and got it to use with Plex - and it seems like an ETERNITY I’ve been waiting for a Plex App for it…

I’m old.
I forget things…
EXCEPT the pain and suffering of the Plex App on an AFTV.

Many thanks everyone For your comments

I have a first gen Fire TV an I had used it very little primarily because I detest the user interface that made the experience unpleasant for me.

But a few weeks ago full control via Echo devices was added and that has made the Fire TV actually my most used Plex device as I use it for audiobooks exclusively.

I have it hooked into my whole house audio distribution system and my Echo devices scattered around the house can start and stop the book that is playing. I even simplified the overall playback operation by putting my audiobooks in playlists.

Now all I have to do is start a playlist, even from a book in the middle if I want, and it plays whenever I say “Alexa, play Fire TV” and it pauses when I say “Alexa, pause Fire TV.” If there have been no other device or playback recently started or controlled by the particular Echo device that even simplifies to “Alexa, play/pause.”

So the Fire TV is used pretty much 24/7 and whenever I am moving around the house cooking, working or if I just want to listen I can just start or stop playback by a few words.

I have only had to restart the Fire TV twice in the last two weeks. Once due to a power failure and the other was when a update was installed.

I never thought that my Fire TV would be used so much but not ever used for anything video!

good for you, but unfortunately plex is mainly a VIDEO service and that does not work very well with the latest versions at all.

Actually Plex is a media service and audio is just as important as video. Neither is more important than the other.

However I do think they are equally important and should work correctly. But, as far as Plex is concerned, everything is working correctly. I was just giving an example of a near flawless use for a Fire TV.

I’m seeing the very same thing. The more they update, the less things work. Plex constantly loses my place when watching shows in a series. And the media matching seldom works. It doesn’t matter if you make a match manually, Plex just spins and spins, and never matches.

It’s this very simple functionality that has stopped working which has me looking for another media server solution.
