Plex hates Subtitles HW Transcode

Hi,

I run the PMS 1.10.1.4561 on a Synology 916+, which is able to do hw transcode. Due to the well known issue that Plex allways hates Subtitles the PMS must transcode the File (6 MBit) to show the ass Subtitles on the Nvidia Shield TV. Unfortunately can the PMS easily transcode the file with hw on the fly to lower bitrates or solution but as soon as it come to subtitles nothing go anymore. The worst of all is, as soon as i use Kodi for the shield with the plex plug in, i don’t like this way, all goes flawless. So, why hates PLEX Subtitles so much? Why does it run in Kodi on the same device flawless and in the native Plex app not? So, Please don’t screw your proper PMS up with useless frontend apps.

Oh, if i run the subtitles transcode in software mode all is fine again. Of course is the CPU on this way on 98% and i can only afford on stream at the time.

Please, please…use the ability from the frontend devices properly, too.

thx

It should be a option to never burn in subtitles.

Client devices are often times powerfull enough to add the subtitles. please give more power to the plex client

This is exactly my opinion, too.

agree with it

This is probably the most frustrating thing about Plex right now. I bought a Nvidia Shield to use for PMS. Subtitles (and unneeded transcoding) destroys performance. I stream from the Shield to an Apple TV.

I thought it might be because the Apple TV doesn’t support some of the files I’m throwing at it through PMS. I installed an app called Infuse on the Apple TV and that has zero issues handling whatever I throw at it. If I can’t get decent performance out of the Shield, I’m going to return it and just use Infuse. I would rather lose some of the flexibility of the Shield for rock solid video playback.

I discovered the PlexKodiConnect from Croneter and Kodi for the shield. And guess, as soon as i use Kodi all files and subtitels played direct. I’ve to admit that i get the same result with the official Plex for Kodi Add on but this is a little bit inconvenient so I use the fabulous work from croneter.

Agree. Subtitles handling is the weakest (and it’s badly weak indeed) point of Plex.

PLEX client on LG 2017 SRT subtitles are always transcoding while XPLAY does not come on PELX team why aren’t you reading your clients requirements !!!]
Hands ON
very awkward from PLEX team to bring out a client that needs transcoding to have SRT subtitles when XPLAY (made buy a 3rd party ) on my 2017 LG OLED TV with Synology NAS plays all 1080p and 4 K movies Flawlessly !!!
Plex TEAM we payed for LIFEtime pass to watch movies with subtitles !!! is this something too much to ask after 5+ years

LOL … recently I had a discussion with on of the Plex Team. He gave me the feeling that I’am the only one complaining about subs.
