Be aware that the 4k fire stick has issues playing interlaced video which causes plex and the hdhomerun app to freeze.
Mainly an issue in the UK but some US users complain of the same problem. Something to test before your return window closes.

Upgraded to 1.17.0.1709 today. Still same message if I try to cast live TV to anything.
I’m wondering if they’ve disabled this due to licensing?
Fire Stick will be here tomorrow.
Meanwhile the DVR is freaking awesome. Was sitting at a restaurant last night and the wife saw an ad on TV and said “OMG we didn’t set that to record”. I pulled it up on my phone and had it scheduled in a minute flat. DirecTV didn’t ever work that well. Half the time you couldn’t schedule a recording at all from the app.
I am still able to stream to myself on 1.17.0, so it isn’t a licensing issue.
DVR is awesome only when the Plex EPG actually provides good show info. It has been terrible (wrong and missing info) for UK users since 1-July.
Well the Amazon Firestick 4K is nice but it’s not helping the situation. Live TV Stutters, skips, pixelates and eventuality just goes blank. It caused the HDHR to rescan, picked up a bunch more channels that won’t really come in. Went back into setup and marked them off but it’s completely ignoring the channel list and just shows all of the channels.
Why on earth can I not get Plex to stream if everyone else can?
That’s disappointing! Does this happen both in Plex and in the HDHR app?
It’s really hard to say what’s wrong in this situation, but if this was happening to me, I’d probably start with my network. Unfortunately that’s a very complicated task. This could be as simple as a bad cable, or as complicated as a problem with a network card (on the PC or HDHR) or the switch being used.
If it’s a problem in Plex, but also a problem when just using the HDHR app, that would probably rule out the Plex Server as the culprit, for example. It’s a matter of narrowing down where the problem is.
It’s the HDHR app. Plex and any other app works perfect. I swapped out my wifi AP and initially it looked like it was going to work properly but this morning it was right back to crashing. The app is just absolute crap.
As for Plex, I just discovered on the fire stick, if you muddle through the GUI long enough you can find the guide, click a show and eventuality tune it in, but it takes a dozen clicks to get back to the guide and tune anything else and it keeps forcing you off the guide back to the main menu.
And still on the Android or Windows Plex app if I connect to any of my TV’s it gives me the message that live TV is not supported when connected to a remote player
I keep seeing posts all over the net about this with the same result. So just to clarify what I have going on, I’m opening Plex on my Android phone, selecting my TV, which is a Chromecast device or the Firestick, and then trying to play live TV. It works fine on movies, shows, etc, but it refuses to stream the live TV, calling the Chromecast or Firestick a remote player. Is this actually not supported by Plex? Because that’s what I keep finding in other threads.
Meanwhile SiliconDust has posted on a thread that they are seeing issues with the Firestick 4K and they’re working on it
