Plex headache - 2 computers, same network - Server issues

Server Version#: Version 1.18.5.2309

This is a long one so I’ll summerise as much as i can.

1 - set up WD My cloud / Plex on my desktop. Accidentally created server on plex called
Desktop-1234567 (not actual name). Anyway found a way to remove that and added a server with our household name called HOMEFLIX (not actual name).
2 - HOMEFLIX was great on the desktop, was copying into the WD folders, was syncing great with Plex. Worked on PC no issues.
3 - Downloaded plex on xbox one - logged in, saw HOMEFLIX and added and it didnt work , ok I’ll sort that later.
4 - got plex and logged in on wifes new laptop, wsaw HOMEFLIX and wouldn’t connect. Wasn’t sure of issue considering plex worked on desktop (and my phone). for some reason, the plex on that laptop looked different

This is where it got weird…

5 - so similarly to what happened originally (the Desktop-1234567 server) my plex had a Laptop-1234567 server suddenly spring, and i was removing it in the “Authorised Devices” area but it was going - i tried redownloading , loggin out and it would go away, in General it just kept asking me to “claim” the server name - this is where i thought of a “great” idea,. turns out it was ■■■■.

6 - i renamed the Laptop-1234567 to HOMEFLIX and linked the libraries to the WD and it started syncing, so i went to desktop and that was all present and correct and now i thought I had both working!

WRONG!!!

7 - got up this morning and HOMEFLIX is gone from my desktop media server browser and the previously removed/deleted Desktop-1234567 is somehow back and its saying to “claim” it in my general settings and HOMELFIX is nowhere to be seen (haven’t booted the laptop to check that yet.

Now I’ve got no server in mt authorsied devices either on the desktop.

Shouldn’t you just log into plex on anything and see the same set up (as long as on same network)???

Why wouldn’t the laptop see the same info!? and now how the hell do i fix this?

I’m a newb and I’ve read as much as i can but I can’t seem to see how to sort it.

Do the servers have static IPs?

sorry mate, bear with me!.

when you say servers you mean the Laptop-1234567 and desktop-1234567 !?
in a word I don’t know. - I’ve not set it up so Id assume they don’t as default.

Would they need statics?

or if I’d set up HOMEFLIX with a static it would work on any plex device?

ok so I’ve changed nothing at all and suddenly the HOMEFLIX i set up on laptop is appearing on my list again on the desktop but its “not available” - seriously feel like smashing it all up lol.

Anyway, I’ve set the desktop as HOMEFLIX DESKTOP in an attempt to keep HOMEFLIX on the laptop ok - so tried this and now the desktop one’s scan is only picking up stuff I’m copying onto WD my cloud at the moment and nothing that was already on it… ffs honestly.

sorry having major ups and downs -

today i set up the laptop and desktop as 2 servers (independent of each other both on my log in and linked them to the same WD my cloud)

all worked fine until i stupidly “claimed” the server name and it cut one’s connection (laptop)

then magically, the laptop plex connected to my desktop server and all is right in the world!!!

i’m changing nothing from now on… scans /playbacks only !!

PMS = Plex Media Server = Server,s

make things easier, there address is how they are referenced.

Each of your severs needs a different address, but it also needs to be static (not changing) meaning it is the same address after every reboot.
In Windows you set up the static IP address for that system (example 192.168.10.40)
Plex sets up the port 32400…

If your not sure how to go about setting a static IP. google it

Thanks!! checking all this now. Appreciate it.
