Plex thinks two devices are one server

I just purchased a new iMac recently that I want to set up a separate plex server for. I already have two laptops that each have their own server. However, whenever I open Plex on my new iMac it takes over the server belonging to one of the laptops. It is always the same laptop. I have tried deleting the server here: https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/devices/pms

I have also deleted and redownloaded the plex media server while also quitting them via the terminal for a hard uninstall before redownloading them.

I just want to have a third server because I cannot use the media server on the iMac.

Server Version#:1.25.5.5492
Player Version#: 4.75.0

What does this mean exactly. Was this a new install or did you migrate anything from one of the servers on the other computers?

I would delete BOTH servers from the link you provided, then RELINK each instance one at a time, rename each server temporarily until you get this sorted, have both laptops open, have each laptop launch Plex Server and open a browser that opens the following URL: 127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html

So basically:

Press the red X and delete the servers located on Plex.tv, this will not delete your metadata, only disconnect the connection between the installed servers located locally on each laptop. Do this for the ones you are having issues with. You’re gonna reconnect /reauthorize each installed instance of Plex Server by going to 127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html on laptop #1, it will have you sign in and reauthorize (CLAIM) that installation again and connect with Plex.tv again. If you don’t see the images below, then click on you user icon on the top right corner and logout. Sign back in and then you should see the screenshots below. Rename this server temporarily as Server 1.

Reopen the link below and see if the server from laptop #1 appears under servers.

Then open up a browser and point to 127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html again on laptop #2. Sign into Plex.tv and reauthorize that Plex Server installation to that 2nd laptop and make sure to temporarily rename it something else or Server 2 just to make sure it can be identified separately. Then
load https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/devices/pms again to see if that server appears listed as a separate server.

What you’ll also want to do is set each laptop with static IP’s and have port forwarding setup on your router for each laptop’s instance of Plex Server. This method allows some consistency in your setups, especially when there’s more than one server setup on the same LAN.

This isn’t a hard uninstall.

Just follow the instructions here on the support page but you shouldn’t even have to delete the Plex Server App at all. Just the contents in the associated directories as instructed, then reopen the Plex Server app, and you’ll be asked to setup a fresh new instance of it.

OS X

To completely remove the Plex Media Server from your OS X computer, first make sure the Plex Media Server is not running.

Using the Finder’s “Go” menu, select Go To Folder… then enter the following in the dialog box that pops up:

~/Library/

Browse to and delete the following files and folders:

~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/
~/Library/Caches/PlexMediaServer/
~/Library/Logs/Plex Media Server/

Open your “Terminal” application and then run the following command:

defaults delete com.plexapp.plexmediaserver

This is the only terminal command you needed if anything.

If the second system was a partial clone of another (Time Machine, Migration Assistant) there may be a simpler process. It shouldn’t be necessary to delete the database/metadata/Library config, or other configuration on the server, only the unique Identifiers.

On the newer machine -

Plex not finding libraries after restore from time machine and Big Sur update - #9 by Volts

Then connect, log in, and claim it again, if necessary.

We don’t know if that’s OP’s situation yet, but I’m laying out what I can cuz I’m heading off for the night. Hopefully it is just a migration issue.
