I’d love to see a few cool new categories under “Recommended” on the Plex home page. Specifically, some of the below (just ideas) since I have a HUGE Movie Library that i’ve accumulated over the years. Instead of alphabetically browsing 100’s, or 1,000’s of movies (close to 30Tb’s), these could be fun ways of suggesting movies.

  • Trending, which could pull hashtag info from Twitter on trending actors or movies
  • I’m Feeling Lucky, which could be a fun random assortment
  • Current, which could be loosely based on holidays that just happened, or are approaching, or which type of month it is “Black History Month”, for example
  • Daily Mix, 5 quick random suggestions based on recent watch history
  • Spin the Wheel, a fun interactive way to spin a carousel of random movies/videos
  • “Finish Him”, a small collection of movies that have been started, but never finished (has the ability to look further back in history than “Continue Watching”

I have like dozens of more different types of fun categories, but I won’t waste anyones time here. These are just some obvious ones to kickstart the dialog.

  • Trending is available if you open the Discovery source.
  • Current is done occasionally with the Seasonal Movies hub. You just need to activate it.
  • You can create a smart collection of random movies, limit it to e.g. 3 items and publish it to the home page.
  • With the In progress filter, you can build another smart collection of not completely played movies. And publish it to the home page or the library’s Recommended tab.
