Plex HTPC feedback

One thing I really miss from PMP: Going back to “select user” when the screen saver triggers.
I have a roommate, and we use different users.
We now have to manually change users when the next person wants to watch something.
Previously, it would always be at the “select user” screen after a timeout, so we never really had to think about double checking if are logged in with the correct user.
We watch a lot of the same shows, so going by “continue watching” isn’t always immediately clear.

No hdr.
Going back to kodi 19, at least we have hdr.

it’s coming at somepoint. it’s not plex dev’s fault when even mpv doesn’t have it right yet…

ok, its coming but at least give the oportunity to use external players if this is not working, so we can “use” and test. For now i am sure a lot of people directly uninstall this and don’t touch until one year or two.
And the same for desktops apps in 2021 no hdr its a shame.
Media player classic is working in hdr, this not an excuse

Plex has never supported external players ever so keep dreaming and realise that what you’re asking for takes time. HDR on Windows has been a shitshow for years, it’s only just now getting to a better place.

This is a feedback thread for beta software, if you want stable and have no interest in providing actual feedback other than “no hdr wahh” go and grab Plex for Windows and be content until this is in a better spot.

What i am saying is Plex developers must get this first working for the apps it has before develop a new thing, just to put on advertising.
I only use plex to wach my videos but i have to use another program with addons who at least the developers try to support 2021 standards and is free, there is no subscription involved or “VIP” features.
And what i see is only the same app but with controller support? Plex desktop app has the same funcionality with my harmony that i don’t know de diferences betwen apps.

@viseniv - This new app is intended to be the direct replacement for Plex Media Player, which is essentially no longer being developed. It is intended specifically for the HTPC use case, which the Plex Desktop app does not.

It is still effectively in BETA, and the point of this particular topic is to provide feedback to allow the developers to be able to get the new app to a more stable releasable stage.

Hopefully this helps to inform you a little better :slightly_smiling_face:

The format is fixed in 16:9, when i launch it on my ultrawide monitor (3440x1440) it doesn’t stretch.
Is this intended ?

Yes. This has already been discussed above. Besides, this is a desktop monitor. You probably want to use a desktop app with mouse support, and not a 10-foot UI with RC support only.

well, i’m using this in my bedroom, and from the bed, the desktop ui and mouse is way too small, so i’m using PMP (but it doesn’t have intro skip :/) so i wanted to try this new one, which has it !
Pressing Z when played allow changing the scaling, even to stretch to the full screen if needed.
Too bad we can’t choose to stetch the UI too

Yes but you can force the playback to utilize your 21:9 monitor properly via mpv.conf options.

I know what is a beta, get a stable release when you have the features.
This is mora an alpha, add features.

pressing Z is easier ^^

After that, the app include way more functionnality than PMP much appreciated =) !

lol… Ya just can’t help some people!

It’s annoying after a while so i’d rather just use the mpv options personally but to each their own!

hum doesn’t the app scale your video to the max it can (letterbox ?) i don’t want stretched because it’s bad.
What are your mpv.conf options ?

reading the md file it says that option

  • video-aspect
is in the list of :
some settings in the mpv.conf file will be overridden by the application.

It does (scale, not stretch) but you have to do it (press Z) everytime playback starts which is annoying to me.

--keepaspect
--monitoraspect=21:9

ohhh right, i was browsing the options and i didn’t reach thoose one yet =) ! Thanks for the tip !

I do not understand this argument. Am I not allowed to use a 43" desktop monitor with a 10-foot ui and a keyboard from my couch?
EDIT: Using BetterTouchTool Remote on iOS is another legit variant which works nicely with Plex HTPC.

well me too, i would use my phone to control the app instead of keyboard, but only PHT is seen in the mobile app, not PMP, Hence why i use keyboard + PHT from the UW screen in my bedroom
But anyway, anybody should be able to use remote keyboard from anyscreen as they please

Anyway, my keyboard is remote with mouse pad, and has button to shutdown the computer so it’s great as a remote ! Having the UI extend to the screen would be very much appreciated
