Plex HTPC on Ubuntu with Elo touch screen monitor

Server Version#: 1.29.2.6364-6d72b0cf6
Player Version#: 1.30.1.3391-8c2e653b

Rebuilt my kitchen display using Ubuntu running Plex HTPC. Had it running MCE on Windows 7 for years and wanted something newer. Swiping to scroll/navigate does not work on the screen. Using the wireless micro media keyboard works fine, but a good deal of the usability is killed when the touchscreen does not function fully. Tapping works fine, the OS sees the screen and it works fine in pretty much every other app I’ve tried. Just not Plex

So if I install and use the Desktop app for Linux that will fix my issue? I’ll go ahead and give that a go. I really like the interface on HTPC, I’m hoping it won’t be too different on the Desktop app.

I guess my problem is that where this is set up sometimes I’ll be right up at the screen, swiping around for something to watch. Other times I’ll be across the room using a remote. So I need both versions at the same time. Easiest thing would be is if the UI rendering was different but everything else stayed the same. Keep everything under the hood the exact same code base and the ā€˜cover’ different depending on your need.

The Plex for Windows/Mac/Linux ā€œdesktop appā€ has the same interface as the Plex web app. i.e. the one available at https://app.plex.tv

So, web app using Firefox is no go, no touch scrolling. Using Opera does give me the touch scrolling in the web app though. Using the Linux version of Desktop also gives me the touch scrolling. The UI is not as nice as the HTPC version though, and I can’t find where to turn on the Photos screen saver.

After playing with the various options it looks like I’ll stay with the HTPC and deal with the limited functionality. I’ll have a remote nearby and supplement it with touch control.

If they could enable the touch navigation like in Desktop and include a Back arrow in the top corner, this would be perfect. An option to enable those in the settings would allow this version to accommodate the many people who are looking for exactly this.

I might still play around with versions of windows with the player clients. The HTPC GUI is best for my setup because the icons are larger. The desktop GUI works with the touch navigation but it’s harder to hit the smaller icons and the layout isn’t as good as the HTPC GUI. Might have to roll back to Windows 7 MCE worst case.
