Plex HTPC video isn't smooth, but it is on PMP

Throughout the development of Plex HTPC, I have noticed that video playback isn’t entirely smooth… It is easy to see hitches in scenes with panning, for example.

The same content played on the same Windows PC via Plex Media Player looks fine, though.

How can I improve the performance of Plex HTPC for Windows? Obviously I worry about the future of PMP.

The playback system is an Intel 10700KF with an Nvidia 2080 GPU under Windows 10. I have left all Plex video settings at their default except for refresh rate matching which is turned on in each Plex app. The playback device is a 1080p60 projector.

You likely have something in your 3D settings that is interfering. This thread points out one such example Black screen on all media after updating to 1.42.1 - #61 by agentbinky
