Plex HTPC with Refresh Rate Switching & VRR

Server Version#: 4.156.0
Player Version#: v.1.71.1.346-f62ce923

Hey guys,

I wanted to sound out the “best practice” for using Plex HTPC on Windows 11 with G-Sync/VRR turned on.

I am a bit new to VRR and have just upgraded to an LG G5 TV with the PC connected to a Denon X6800H receiver.

I have G-Sync/VRR enabled for my RTX-5080, and if I try and enable “Refresh Rate Switching” in Plex HTPC video settings then 90% of the time the video doesn’t play and Plex just sits there on a black screen “at playback” until I exit out.

If i disable this option then the video plays without the black screen issue, but there are times where I see “vsync tearing”, especially when the camera pans down in a scene.

I don’t really want to have to turn G-Sync off and on each time I want to watch via Plex, so I wondered how others have got around this issue of Refresh Rate Switching seemingly causing issues with video playback with G-Sync on?

Many thanks.
