Plex HW&SW

Hi All, after some testing I decide to go with Plex - love it!! Now, before buying Plex Pass, I need to build robust HW solution (my budget is around 10k USD) for

  • 4x 4k 77" SONY TV
  • 7x iPad clients

Could you recommend me, what configuration should I buy - ie. Dell Precision workstation with nVidia card? Or some rack server? CPU is more important than high perf GPU? How about RAM and network speed, GLAN is enough?

How about disk? SSD or Sata is enough?

How about end client hw device - Apple TV or nVidia shield for 4k and dolby atmos?

And lastly, which OS should I use - Ubuntu or Windows/apple? Im able to manage all, important is performance and best HW support…

Thanks a lot for you help! Mark

Shield 2019 Pro.

The Shield is the only off the shelf device that passes TrueHD + Atmos, the Atmos that is found on Blu-ray discs.

The AppleTV 4K decodes TrueHD to PCM. There is no quality loss, since PCM is lossless. However, any Atmos information is lost in the process.

Both devices pass EAC3 + Atmos, which is the Atmos version used by the streaming services.

Hi, thanks a lot!! Mark
