Plex ignores album title beginning with "..." (3 periods)

Server Version#:1.23.4
Player Version#: 4.72.0 (web)

Hi,

I just noticed that an album with an Album Title which begins with three periods is not visible/searchable/playable in the web client as it’s not being processed by the web server.

Album Title: …and the bleak shall inherit
Artist: Waterglass

I have 3 CDs by this band, 2 are fine, and 1 is not.

All present and correct on the NAS, and can be played with other DLNA players with no issue when the DLNA source is Twonky. When the DLNA source is Plex Media Server, it’s not listed as an available title.

Anyone else seen this issue before please ?.

Cheers.

You likely need to name it without the .... Periods at the beginning of a filename are special on many filesystems, and represent a hidden file. Plex ignores files/directories that begin with period.

I believe Plex will still match it correctly and present it with the correct name in the UI.

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback on this. It’s a good point about periods… I just assumed Plex would deal with this - so thanks for confirming its behaviour

I’m curious - does it work, and does Plex identify the album correctly when it’s named without the ...?

This doesn’t affect just albums. I used to have trouble with https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078718/ when it was still named “…and justice for all (1979)”. Had to remove the dots to make it work.

Weird, somebody just mentioned that movie to me the other day!

A good note for all special characters is to just leave them out - don’t replace them with other characters.
