Plex ignores the ID3 tags of my audiobooks and plays the titles in the wrong order

Server Version 1.18.7.2457

I have some audio books and would like to have them managed and listened to by Plex - just like I organise and watch TV series via Plex.

My audio books are all tagged properly.
Track # - Title Name - Author - Book Title - Cover - date etc…

All the books of an author are in the same folder.
The file names are structured as follows:

Track# - Booktitle . mpe (e.g. “01 - the holy bible.mp3”)

Although I have enabled “Prefer local metadata | When scanning this library, prefer embedded tags and local files if present” in the settings, the 4 albums from the same author in the same folder of Plex are always played as ONE audio book:
01- Audio book1
01- Audio book2
01- Audio book3
01- Audio book4
02- Audio book1
02- Audio book2

In this order, of course, it makes no sense at all, especially since the titles are played in exactly this order.

What am I doing wrong?

Of course I could manually create a separate folder for each book, but I would like Plex to use the tags embedded in the mp3 files to structure them.

You have to do this.
You can use software to do it for you, e.g. mp3tag

WOW, that was quick! Thanks!!

mp3tag is great, I use it since years… to set my tags right  and to import my mp3 to iTunes. I let iTunes organize my complete library and iTunes puts all mp3-titles of different authors into the same folder (author name)
If I reorganize the folder structure, iTunes probably won’t be able to handle it.
I gave plex access to the iTunes Audiobook folder …

Plex has no support for Audiobooks. So your audio files must be organized exactly like music:
Music > Album Artist > Album Title > Tracks
or analogous for Audiobooks:
Books > Author > Book Title > Chapters
