I’m wondering if it would be possible to make Plex works offline?
That way all the devices of a home could work even without internet just by connecting on the wifi router.
Plex would have to make some periodic back up of the essentiels informations (posters, synopsis, actors, links with other movies,…) but without download all the rest of the extra features more heavy (such trailers, bonus, audio for series menu,…) or make it a setting to decide what we synchronised or not.
This would help Plex to work even if internet is down, when it cuts periodictly and would allow people to bring a Plex server in distant area and make it works without internet.
Plex could launch directly offline and go online to update himself when he find internet.
FYI, document below shows how to work around Plex’s lack of an offline/no-Internet mode.
Some of the steps must be taken when Plex has an Internet connection. Wait until things fail and you could be out of luck.
Also, note that allowing devices w/o authorization also bypasses things like age-restrictions, which may be important depending on the makeup of your household.
