no I hadn’t seen anything about a new method.
I’ll have to do an estimate of storage space required
Yeah that’s exactly my remote setup that’s working so well. Through a script though as I know little Linux and no docker. (Not that I need to.)
yeah there are several good tools/scripts that make remote setup a breeze
ok, so is the estimate for BIF size still between 10MB & 50MB per media item?
if so, and taking a 30MB average, I dont currently have the room for 435GBs of BIFs just for my film library
Yeah, the size of the BIF hasn’t changed, just the speed that they are created.
Oh come on. I’m sure you could find room for that.
I get it, that 1 more digit than it would be for me.
It’s just that I’d have to buy another SSD, ship it to the datacenter and then schedule a time to have them put it in.
All for some thumbnails that I haven’t missed having
That’s the thing…
Once you get hooked (like me) that ape fits you for a saddle and rides you like discount panties. I can’t not have them now - the path I must tread is all mapped out so any help Plex offers is welcome (new thumb-gen is great).
I had to move the data off the SSD long ago, so the drive it’s on has about 2TB free. It’s just the cost of doing bidness.

now that’s the Juice I know and love LOL
Does Android TV (NVidia Shield) support the previews?
I can tell ya VPTs on FireTV are a great stand-up comedy act (otherwise unfit for purpose), so if they’re anything like that on Shield, then the answer would be, ‘No’.
if that is the case then previews go back to my ignore list with it’s friends - Web Shows, News, Pre-Rolls, and Tidal
Yea, but if you have a Roku VPTs are a wonderful thing. I understand they’re also great on ATV. When they’re implemented properly they’re easy to get hooked on. When implemented poorly they’re easy to disregard.
I was watching an episode of Giri/Haji (now that one’s gonna take some Fix Match Magic, but eventually you’ll get it) and missed an important plot point somewhere, found it in seconds when some unfamiliar thumbs showed up. Do that a few times and the monkey will be by to take your measurements.
You touched a raw nerve there… as Juice will confirm😀
Yes the Shield does. But not in any usable way.
I just tried an old version of MKVToolNIX (v19) and remuxing the original file from MKV to MKV does indeed lead to the audio bitrate being detected properly by Plex. So it does seem to be an incompatibility with newer versions of certain encoding/muxing tools
And I have confirmed that when the bitrate is missing for the audio, there is an unnecessary video transcode as well. I will be filing this with the team and we’ll see what happens.
Appreciate it man. It’s a weird issue for sure. It may also be the cause of random issues on other clients as well but Fire TV was the only one I had time to investigate so far
Hey MovieFan just curious if any progress has been made on this issue
Bumping to keep the thread from being auto-closed. It’s been a few months and this is still an issue
Really!! Are you just seeking to make snide/dumb comments in every post you make?
Are you just so bored and needing to find something to say? A response to a 4 month old comment?
4 months ago VP thumbs on the Shield were undeniably the worst experience of ANY Plex client. My change of stance at how great they are now is well documented.
(You would have seen that had you not spent your days necro browsing through @JuiceWSA’s posts, looking to be argumentative and thus stumbling across mine.)
They’re so good in fact that I no longer bother with the forums as my current Plex experience just doesn’t warrant wasting my time reading nonsense posts (which fortunately spares me reading yours) when I can be enjoying my media.
Please do me a favour… If you are gonna pointlessly tag/quote me in posts…make sure it’s current/relevant.
Better yet don’t tag me at all.
Unfortunately many forum members are having this same experience and it’s sad Yoho-Ahoy/ @CompleteControl has little input in the forums due to so called trolls. Lets hope something will be done about it soon, so we can have our friendly forum community back. It is interesting to analysis their forum summaries about likes given, only to notice it not in the forum community spirit.
Another bump. Plex Media Server is still unable to detect the audio bitrate for most MKV’s created using modern versions of MKVToolNix or FFMPEG. It’s still causing issues for Fire TV/Android devices. It’s been six months since me and @anon18523487 confirmed the issue and he made the team aware. If it can’t be fixed at the server level then a client fix would suffice. Plz halp
