Plex indicating connections on the local LAN as remote

Server Version#: 1.41.3.9314
Player Version#: 1.69.0.264-8ae11259

Not sure when it started happening but I noticed my server is regarding clients on my local network as being remote. This can be viewed by looking at the server dashboard while actively playing content. The “Now Playing” information panel indicates the client is remote as well as the bandwidth tracker is reporting the data stream as being remote.

I have confirmed the behaviour with 3 different clients (Windows PC, Android, and even with the web player running on the actual Plex Server).

I have Remote Access disabled on the server so obviously these are actually local connections but for some reason, the server does not see them that way.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Are your Plex server and clients on the same network subnet?

You could try specifying your LAN subnet under the LAN Networks options in the network settings. It uses a netmask rather than CIDR so if you LAN subnet is 192.168.1.1-192.168.1.254 then you would enter 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0.

What IP range is your LAN using?

Oh my god… I am an idiot. I used to have a router between my ISP router and my local LAN. My router was 192.168.0.0/24 meaning all the devices in my house were on that subnet and the ISP router was on 192.168.1.0/24 (I did this because my router had better WiFi coverage). My router blew up a couple months ago and I switched everything over to the ISP subnet on 192.168.1.0/24. I had both Subnets configured in Plex but obviously wasn’t using the ISP subnet originally. Because you asked I just went and double-checked the Plex configuration and as I was cleaning out the old Subnet I am no longer using I noticed I dropped the 8 in 192.168 so I had 192.16.1.0/24.

It is working properly now. Sorry for wasting everyone’s time and thanks for the help.
