Plex iOS Download feature is unusable as it does not ever complete a download

I’m having the same problem on 3 iOS devises, the download just never really starts.

How can I get back the old fashioned sync feature until you sort this issue out?

Hi @MiloPlex, this is excellent information, thanks a lot! I was not even aware that there was a DNS Rebind Protection option is available in my router. Now that I have added “plex.direct” in there, I could do my first download.

@anon18523487, I’m also one of the users that are impacted by this DNS Rebind issue, which caused me a lot of headaches trying to find the solution. So it would be great if this could be solved in a future version, to save some headaches for other users who are not aware about the solution. Or for these people who can not change this setting in their router (for whatever reason). Keep up the great work!

Pleased to hear it’s helped someone else :+1:t2:

Same problem here: Plex Media Server Logs_2021-10-28_21-21-36.zip (33.5 KB)

Works flawlessly from a Mac. I really hope you consider making sure the new feature is out of Alpha stage before removing the legacy Sync function.

I can transcode and download some shows, but not others. Can’t for the life of me work out why. There’s no pattern for which shows work and which don’t. Sync worked perfectly guys. The shows I can’t download will work through Sync if I switch it back on. Same episodes say “error downloading item” with Download.

EDIT - with support’s help we’ve cracked it. The shows that wouldn’t work all had ‘Comedy’ in the genre tag. Delete that and they work. A fix is coming but if anyone else is baffled, try removing genres from the stubborn shows’ metadata.

Solved my problem with me using pfsense by going and doing the following:

Go to System > Advanced , Firewall/NAT tab. then you need to enable three options:

  1. Pure NAT for NAT Reflection mode for port forwards 2) Enable NAT Reflection for 1:1 NAT 3) Enable automatic outbound NAT for Reflection

Click Save.

Sign out and back into your plex on the device. Then it will download.

Cheers

Thank you. I’ve now found and enabled all of those, will be able to test when I return from holidays.

You also have to go into System > Advanced and disabled rebind check box. Then i could download as normal - otherwise it downloaded but it was transcoding too instead of just downloading as it should.

I’ve switched to Downloads, it works on my iPhone (IOS 15) but not on iPad (ipadOS 15) so this should not be a rebind issue (as then it would not work on either device.

I’ve deleted the Plex app from my iPad, rebooted the device and then re-installed, but still no successful downloads, the Downloads screen shows Downloading under the item and the circle goes around on the Hamburger menu.

I’m lost. help!

any leftover sync jobs when you disable the new downloads feature?
try deleting any previous syncs (this should be the case after you did a new install) but also potential incomplete sync jobs.

no, i removed all sync’s content and content noted on the server downloads.

I found a solution for my iOS devices. I went into my wifi on the device. into the i info and into DNS, which was set to automatic. I switched it to manual, removed the router and a MAC address and added Google DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. So effectively, my iOS device is not using the router dns settings

Saved, shut down and restarted wifi. I’d already deleted the failed downloads. New ones started and competed in minutes

These all seem like very techie solutions to a problem that didn’t exist before this feature. I can’t find a DNS Unbind feature in my router or modem.

Has there been any commitment to actually fix the problem?

It appeared to work for a while but has stopped again :expressionless:

My downloads also never start, show no progress, and do not generate any activity on my server.
Windows server: 4.63.0
iOS client on 15.1, version is in the logs. iOS logs attached

Thank you for your attention. I would love to use the downloads feature, so I look forward to your reply.

Tagging myself in on this issue - also seeing the same thing. Waiting for IOS client update release before retesting.
