Player Version#: 7.11 for IOS (running IOS 14.3 on an iPad Air 4th gen or iPhone 10S)
I’m unable to use HW transcoding for a live TV stream using an Intel iGPU in my iPad or IPhone. This prevents the use of the PiP in IOS since it needs to transcode for it to work.
This is what I’ve tested:
- Forcing HW transcoding of Live TV stream to a browser or the tvOS App on AppleTV (works, so HW transcode is OK)
- Direct Stream of Live TV to IOS by disabling “Automatically Adjust Quality” (works)
- Disabling HW transcoding (uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available on Plex Server), then stream live TV to IOS. Use PiP. (works)
- Force HW transcode of Live TV stream to IOS by either enabling PIP or enabling “Automatically Adjust Quality” in the IOS app (doesn’t work).
The stream usually doesn’t starts for scenario #4. It spins for a few second, then goes back to the screen before in the Plex app. Occasionally, the stream will start, but without a picture and then occasional garbled noises. This hasn’t been working for some time (I actually can’t remember the last time this worked!), but never had time to post a submission.
Other interesting tidbits:
- Plex server is dockerized on Unraid Server (passing through /dev/dri to the container)
- Live TV stream coming from HD Homerun Connect
