Plex is Combining Unrelated Music Albums

Question: I have this issue in several cases where Plex will combine two albums of the same artist into one album. The two albums have similar names, but are not the same album. Is there any way to force Plex to recognize the albums as two distinct albums?

Background: Plex recognizes one of the albums correctly, but then incorrectly combines the other album into the other album. This results in a situation where the album has two track 1s, two track 2s, etc. The metadata for the stored mp3s are all correct and this happens in Plex regardless of if I select “use embedded tags” or not. The only solution I’ve been able to come up with is to physically remove the files of the “correct” album and then have Plex rescan the files. It will then incorrectly identify the “wrong” album at which point I can edit the metadata within Plex to the correct album. Then I can physically move the other music files that I previously removed back and have Plex rescan again which will then re-add the “correct” album and will keep my changes to the other album that I had to manually fix. This is tedious and isn’t a permanent solution in the sense that if I create a new music library these fixes won’t be transferred to the new library.

The only cure for this type of issue I have found is to completely rule out the influence of Gracenote on ‘matching’ of albums.

Tell Plex to use your embedded metatags.
