Plex is completely worthless to me and they won't respond, Good alternative?

The Roku 2 XS is very old and there are many apps that will not run on it or will not run correctly. Also the XS had some instabilities that could manifest at times on many of the devices. My belief is that the manufacturing process created a borderline condition where some XSs would fail after time and others would work OK. I suspect that there was a part that was just on the border of tolerance.

I had an XS that would work with Plex for a while and then fail during playback.

My strong recommendation is to retire the XS and get a Roku, or other device, that does not have the issues that XSs have.

Most Rokus are good reliable devices but the XS was a low point for them and it is best removed from service.

During this rainy morning I dug into this a bit more using information and good suggestions from above. Here’s what I did:

1.) Eliminated over two dozen useless channels - Only have 13 remaining
2.) Rebooted the Roku
3.) Tried Plex again
Results: Same behavior - It rebooted the Roku after about a minute of playing

1.) Did Factory Reset on Roku.
2.) Connected Roku to my account
3.) Updated Roku

  • Software Version 9.0.0

  • Build 4152

4.) Updated Plex

  • Version 1.15.4.994

5.) Deleted unnecessary channels again
6.) Rebooted the Roku
7.) Tried Plex again
Results: Same behavior - It rebooted the Roku after about a minute of playing

So, I’m at a bit of a loss as to what to do next.

Haven’t figure Emby out yet. Just looks like a media data dump location where you have to manually search for the next thing you want to play. It might be better for others but to me it is not very intuitive as to how to designate a series to play the next unplayed episode. Like I said, it may be more intuitive to others. I’m still exploring. I need work with it a while and see if I can figure it out. With all due respect, I’l like to stay with Plex just because I know it and it worked great for years! But, that ship may have sailed.

So, I’ve attached the Plex logs again. Don’t know if anyone can make sense of them. Let me know. I appreciate the help. BTW, will be gone a few days on a trip to attend to final services for my father.

Thanks again.

Get using emby. Solved all my streaming issues

My 2 XS had a reboot issue in many channels. Tossed it and bought an Ultra which eliminated the issues.

I’ve downloaded Emby and tried using it. I must be getting old because it makes no sense to me. Short of taking a course to try to figure it out it isn’t intuitive - at least to me. I’ll be looking on line for some guidance. Thanks.

That’s an option but not just yet. Still trying to figure out how to fix this. Thanks.

Here’s an update. As my old Roku 2XS worked just fine with everything other than Plex I hesitated at replacing it. I finally did however. I purchased a Roku Ultra and installed it yesterday. At this time it is working properly and Plex works again. Plex no longer reboots my Roku which I’m very happy about.

Do I consider this a Roku issue? No. I think this is still a Plex issue. As stated, all other services and channels worked just fine on my old Roku. It seems Plex now has a higher minimum hardware requirement than those others services and channels. Plex should state this very profoundly, “WILL NOT WORK ON OLDER ROKU DEVICES”. As for what ‘older’ is, I’m sure Plex knows and they should be clear about it so people don’t waste their time and efforts trying to get it to work.

So as for now, Plex is working again. I appreciate the help from everyone. Thank you.

Steve
