Plex on 1 of 4 Roku devices in my home is showing “Offline Mode”. The other 3 Rokus are running Plex normally. All the Rokus are connected to the same network and the same Plex server.
Reinstalling didn’t work, and now I have 3 rokus with the same problem. It seems to be something about the new Roku Home Screen update.
I might also have to do with my attempt to block home screen roku ads. Roku isn’t as happy as it used to be. However, I don’t understand why that would impact Plex unless Plex is using the Roku OS to verify internet connections.
Welp…looks like I am part of the club. We have plex on two rokus. One acted up and a restart fixed it. The other would not. It would not allow a switch to profile and the profile it was on says ofline.
Can confirm this is the case for me. Running a pihole and 4 roku tvs all of which say they’re in offline mode, which started about 3 days ago. If I bypass my pihole all is well again.
far as I can tell it’s linked to Roku not being able to talk the it’s scribe url as all devices will fail internet connectivity too tests (but they work fine).
so FU Roku. I will not disable ad blocking for you to profit on devices I paid for.
“scribe.logs.roku.com is a domain associated with Roku devices, primarily used for logging and tracking purposes. It is known for being a source of frequent connection attempts by Roku devices, which can be blocked for privacy reasons.”
Interestingly, so far my two Rokus that are connected by ethernet (instead of WiFi) suffered the same problems but after disabling the blockers, updating the Rokus, and then reenabling the blockers, those two Rokus and Plex have been fine.
I’m fine with Roku throwing a fit, but I don’t understand why Plex is showing offline. Another app on the same Rokus having problems, is able to stream content from outside my network. So, why is Plex showing offline?
I see this in the Plex Roku logs. It appears Plex is just looking for plex.tv urls, and none of them are blocked from my ethernet connected PC. Going to try a wifi one right now…EDIT: Wifi connected PCs can reach the domains no problem.:
I wonder if the app references the TV state then. My downstairs TV is saying not connected but everything is working fine. But lex in offline mode again ofc
Yes, that seems to be the case even though the logs appears to say otherwise. I’m hoping @BigWheel can shed more light on the subject when he has some time after the long weekend to look at the logs I sent.
Not by a long shot, but these have been used in blocking for years without problems until now (some of them are repeats, I know, but it used to work perfectly):
Plus, pfblockerng is pulling for a few constantly updated sources online for other ad blocking.
I’m not blocking any of the plex domains that are listed in the Roku logs, and I have confirmed they are reachable via a browser. I don’t know why the logs show their connection attempts timeout.
