Plex was working, mostly well (transcoding/playback issues due to encoding were normal, just use Kodi when that happens) but for some reason playback became unreliable last week and after an NVidia Shield update Plex seems to be completely dead when trying to play locally. Remoting in I can watch some videos but not longer, higher quality, movies.
Did you, by any chance, just allow an update of the Android system on your Shield?
The reason I ask that is that I did and after the update completed and everything looked good I found that the server part of Plex would not work. Nothing I did made any difference.
I am pretty well versed with Plex and OK on the Shield and I tried everything I could think of.
I am using the Shield only as a tertiary backup server and I have few apps installed so I decided to just factory reset everything and start from scratch. I am almost two hours into the reset and I hope it will finish soon so I can reinstall everything.
I did yes. And trying to play a movie that is on an attached External HD I see errors like I have often seen when I have issues… ‘exceeds bitrate’ or ‘exceeds bandwidth’ which I have not been able to understand, there is no bandwidth being used.
