Plex broken on Nvidia Shield

Maybe an update from Android or Nvidia, or Plex broke it, but most features no longer work on Nvidia Shield. I can do plex mix’s with music and they seem to work just fine other than the artist’s background image being wrong or lagging most of the time.

My main gripe right now is that I can’t play movies or TV shows. I’ve tried optimizing the video files but it usually plays 1-2 seconds of the file before Plex crashes and I get a message saying the app and server need to be restarted. I think this problem started about a month ago after a plex server update. Before this drastic crash it was stuttering heavily on the playback, maybe it would play for 60-120 seconds then start dragging, you’d have to pause to let the buffer build up. I’ve even tested this on my computer that hosts the files and I get the same crappy performance, or its flat out unwatchable through the browser.

I’ve also noticed since that update Plex struggles to scan new files in searchable folders, ie putting a new movie file in the movie directory it won’t show up without a full rescan of the directory.

Shield is hard wired to the LAN on a cat6 line. Everything used to play and work fine on the computer and Shield maybe two months ago. Any thoughts?

Looks like all videos from Plex either aren’t streaming to my Chromecast or Shield, they also don’t play on the computer anymore through Plex, but VLC is fine. I’ve also noticed that Plex chokes on FLAC files now, which it didn’t used too.

With the videos, I sometimes get the error “The server isn’t powerful enough to convert video.” Ridiculous, my computer is more than powerful enough to transcode.

Nothing changed in my PC other than I removed a sound card, but I never had these problems before recent server updates. Plex is pretty much only useful for streaming mp3’s now.

You should close the Plex server application, restart it, wait two minutes, then attempt to play a problem file using the Shield TV, wait one minute, close the Plex server, and then upload the server log here for review.

This issue has been resolved with Android TV and Plex updates.
