I think I’ve found a workaround. I had a older version of “chromecast.xml” backed up on my server.
If you compare the old and the new file they’ve changed a lot in the file.I did a test run yesterday with the old xml-file and it seemed to work. I’ve only tested it on my CC2 and not CC1.
I’ve renamed the extension to txt due to some upload issue.
Well, this one does it for me. Just replace the old xml file by this one and no problem whatsoever. Big shout out to OleErnst!!! :-c

Great job man, this worked flawlessly for me!
Thanks you so much!
Anyone who have a copy of default chromecast.xml that works that you can share with us?
I used the one from the post :

This needs to be marked as the answer
chromecast.xml is available at the bottom of this page
one side-remark… I noticed that after using the above xml, cpu usage on raspberry would regularly jump to 200-300%
I tried yesterday replacing the Chromecast.xml file in my Synology NAS. The status bar keeps popping up… then this mornig I ralized that maybe the plex server needs to be turned off and restarted and that’s all, works like a charm without cuts and pop-ups!
Thank you so much for sharing this fix!

Yes, I think that’s because this old ‘Chromecast.xml’ specifies that the Chromecast can handle less video formats, so more transcoding is needed. (I see no directplayprofiles in this old xml, but in the newer xml they were there).
Because this leads to videos with subtitles getting transcoded before being streamed to the Chromecast, this ‘fixes’ the issue.

Indeed… I didn’t really pay any attention to this and only noticed after watching 5 episodes of my favorite show that the temperature of my Pi was constantly around 70 degrees…ouch… Never had to turn on my usb cooling vent before…
Okay I just got a Plex Media Server Update. Did that fix the video overlay issue people were having? I just did the workaround before seeing the update so I don’t know if the update actually fixed the problem or not.
Also, how do we get the Chromecast XML file to be reset to the way it was if we want to revert after doing this workaround. Do we need to uninstall and reinstall Plex Media Server or will the new update reset it anyway.
Hi,
you can check the time-stamp for the last edit of chromecast.xml file and check when it was actually updated.
About the original file, I’ve backed it up before adding the new one, please find attached (must be renamed from .xml.txt to .xml)
Bye!
Wow, this worked for me as well! Excellent job @OleErnst!! It was a pleasure to one again use Plex the way it was supposed to; flawlessly! Hopefully an official fix will come along soon, in the meantime OleErnst is my saviour!
Sadly the xml workaround didn’t work for me.

There are several xml-files in this thread now, so be aware that not all of them works (e.g. the file that thunder2k posted did not work for me). I would recommend you to try the file issued by OleErnst at the bottom of the second page in this thread: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/238611/plex-keeps-popping-up-the-controls-over-and-over/p2.

My file was only a backup of the original one because someone asked for it. It is not suppose to fix the issue.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
Sadly this didn’t work.
I got the error with less then 5min of casting.
