Plex keeps reverting edited files metadata

Server Version: 1.25.2.5319
Player Version: n/a

I have a music library I created that contains several Grateful Dead box sets. The tags are inconsistent, so I went through and edited them into individual shows/“albums” with the correct album art for each individual show. It’s tedious since I have to edit each individual track, the whole thing takes several hours. I came back to the library a bit ago only to find my work had been undone. Frustrated, I went through and re-did it and made sure to click the lock to lock the fields I was changing. Only to come back to it today to find that all that work had been reverted again! What’s the point of the lock if Plex ignores it? And I cannot edit the file tags directly because they need to remain how they are.

I realize I’m running a pretty old version of the server but has this specific issue actually been pointed out and fixed since then? I’ve also seen similar behavior with a library I made for The Office Superfan (where when I refreshed an unrelated library some of my changes (like custom episode thumbnails) would get cleared out).

same problem here. Plex merged some of the artists in my collection based on their one time collaboration. E.g. all my Cult of Luna albums are incorrectly assigned to artist “Cult of Luna & Julie Christmas”. Same with Sunn O))) & Ulver… The tags in the files itself are correct.
However when trying to manually edit the artists of these albums, they just revert back to their original values.

Have you checked the option in the library settings to “prefer local metadata”, which would include embedded tags?

yep, that was enabled from the beginning

This may be related to my problem. I have one album by Trevor Yuile. Somehow Plex has decided that all the albums are now by Trevor Yuile. Pretty much every “Various Artists” is being put under his name for some unknown reason. He’s not on any of these!
Not totally sure it’s reverting the ones I edit. I should check that.
