Plex keeps unpausing itself

I am running the most recent software version. I am not sure if it’s just when I playback liveTV recording or not but for sure when I replay livetv recordings it will unpause itself after like 10 seconds of being paused and it is infuriating. Any idea how to fix this? Not sure if its just on AppleTV but its happening on my appletv

Am having this same issue, and not been able to find any relevant helpful tips through searches.

I am having the same issue. This seems to be an issue with live TV as well as library and DVR content.

I’m having the same thing happen. Apple TV seems to unpause while watching.

Same issue here. Highly annoying. This seems like a recently introduced bug - I don’t recall seeing it more than a couple of weeks ago. I’m new to these forums - does anyone from Plex read these posts and / or Is there a way to reach Plex support?

What version number exactly are you using?

server version is Version 1.42.2.10156 on a M2 Mac mini. Not sure what version the client is its on my Apple TV and its set to auto update so I assume whatever the most recent version is. A lot of bugs in plex lately. I also find a problem with if I am recording a show, go out of it, then try to watch it again and select start from beginning rather than watch live that the timeline at the bottom is all messed up looking and I can’t fast forward at all for some reason. But if I select watch live I can rewind back to the beginning and it works fine. This strange behavior has been around through multiple versions. Live TV doesn’t work as great as the rest of plex does thats for sure.

Same here. I am locked at an older pms and atv client so my guess is this is a bug with tvOS 26 and the Plex atv client. I was going to update them both to see if that fixed it but sounds like it won’t.

does it matter if the video is transcoding or not?

I have hardware transcoding off because otherwise live TV doesn’t work at all on any device since the macOS 26 update (it used to work prior to macOS 26). The issue with it unpausing is when I am watching a previously recorded liveTV recording. The issue with it having the timeline at the bottom messed up and not being able to fast forward is when there is a show thats on and recording and I tell it to play from the beginning while its actively recording it

I have not made this distinction yet. I will do some testing on mine. I do not have or use live tv so for me it’s all personal library but it’s been consistent.

@BigWheel Here are my results. For me it’s absolutely only happening while transcoding.

PMS version: 1.41.6.9685 (Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS)
tvOS version: 26.0.1 (23J362)

Bedroom (wireless lan)
tvOS Plex app version: 8.45 (9684)
Transcoding: Pause stops at 10 seconds, playback resumes
Direct play: Pause works as expected

Family room (wired lan)
tvOS Plex app version: 8.45 (9684)
Transcoding: Pause stops at 15 seconds, playback resumes
Direct play: Pause works as expected

I can’t reproduce with tvOS 26 either when transcoding. I also downgraded my server to the current public 1.42 since some of you were on that and i was on 1.43 beta which has some transcoder fixes. I am also not on macOS 26 but since SuperSecret is on Ubuntu not sure that matters.

I think I will need some apple tv logs and server logs from y’all. right after reproducing.

the live TV hardware transcoding problems (and possibly these pause problems also I can’t be sure) started when they released macOS 26 so I assume they only apply to servers running on macOS 26. I installed macOS26, couldn’t play live TV, formatted my disc and downgraded to the previous macOS and it worked fine, then someone said the fix was disabling hardware transcoding so I upgraded again and disabled it and live TV works at least but there are still all these other problem that may or may not exist if the plex version was running on an older macOS version

@BigWheel how low are you transcoding? I have since noticed it does not always happen on a 1080 transcode but it’s 100% reproduce-able for me on a 720 transcode, from a 1080 source. I have also tried many different files to make sure it wasn’t a bad file.

I will grab some logs asap

I was doing down to 720p.

Well there goes that theory

Here are my logs from a fresh test.
