We recently purchased the latest AppleTV 4K (2022) and use Plex. For some reason, when media being played from our server is paused, Plex won’t resume playback. It just gets stuck and the play/pause button does nothing. Only way to resume is to click out of the play window and return back to the show/movie’s screen and start play again.
Strangely, this seems limited to the AppleTV 4K 2022…our AppleTV 2021 is not exhibiting this behavior.
Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
Server Version #: 1.32.6.7371
Player Version#: 8.23.1 (6601)
Yes this another well reported issue that Plex just seem to ignore.
You can try going into settings and disable the new audio player (it will be called “Use old audio player”)
If that doesn’t cure it then the exact same steps with the new video player.
Not saying it doesn’t happen to you…
I’ve tested this on my own Apple TV (2022 model) but failed to reproduce the behavior for short pauses (2-10 minutes, after the Apple TV‘s screen saver kicked in) and longer ones (30-60 minutes, after the Apple TV itself went to sleep). I didn’t get to test this with even longer pauses.
Usually my Apple TV is direct playing media (Blu-ray quality 1080p media, no 4K content)
Adding to BigWheel‘s questions:
What’s the configuration of your server for Settings > [Server Name] > Network > Terminate Sessions Paused for Longer Than…?
I can assure you that if Plex will pony up for some HomePods to test, they will reproduce it in 5 seconds with the new audio player.
Yet another reason for the new audio player to be pulled from tvOS.
